Bengali mathematician Satyendra Nath Bose was born on January 1, 1894 and was an expert in mathematics and physics. He also specialized in theoretical physics.
Best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, he developed the foundations of Bose statistics and Bose condensate theory.
Bose was awarded India’s second highest civilian award and the Padma Vibhushan in 1954 by the Government of India.
The class of particles that obey Bose statistics, bosons, were named after Bose by Paul Dirac.
The mathematician also had a wide range of interests in various fields, including physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, mineralogy, philosophy, arts, literature and music.
Bose contributed to many research and development committees in sovereign India.

- Bengali mathematician and physicist Satyendra Nath Bose was born on January 1, 1894 in Calcutta (now Calcutta).
- Best known for his work with Albert Einstein on a theory on the gas-like properties of electromagnetic radiation, Bose has contributed to many development committees in sovereign India.
- Considered an exemplary student. During his time in high school and college, Bose graduated with a master’s degree. in co-educational mathematics from the Presidency College, Calcutta in 1915.
- He also taught at the University of Dacca (1921-1945) before returning to Calcutta.

- Bose was involved in the production of numerous scientific publications from 1918 to 1956.
- This was a springboard in the advancement of statistical mechanics, the understanding of the electromagnetic properties of the ionosphere, the theories of X-ray crystallography and thermoluminescence, as well as field unification theory.
- Albert Einstein asked Bose to collaborate with him because he was impressed by Bose’s Planck’s Law and the Light Quantum Hypothesis (1924).
- Bose founded quantum statistics in 1924 when he discovered a new method for deriving Planck’s radiation law.
- Bose was then appointed head of the Physics Department of the University of Dhaka in 1926.
- In 1937, Rabindranath Tagore dedicated his only book on science, Visva-Parichay to Bose.
- In 1954, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Vibhushan.
- Bose became a Fellow of the Royal Society and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1958.
- Bose was also appointed National Professor, a position he has held for 15 years since 1959.
