The boy is now among the youngest individuals to have undergone the Diksha ceremony, which requires participants to give up all material possessions to become Jain monks.

In front of tens of thousands of spectators, 8-year-old Devanshi abandoned her worldly life and chose the path of renunciation. According to her family, Devanshi’s piety was well known among members of Surat’s Jain community even when she was a small child. According to reports, the young woman regularly participated in temple rituals and had never seen a movie, watched television or visited a shopping center or restaurant.
However, the family mentioned Devanshi’s ardent interest in religion and his constant desire to attain Sanyas. They went on to say that it was because of her commitment that she and her guru successfully completed a padayatra spanning about 600 km.
