But do you know why Veer Diwas is celebrated and what is its meaning and history? No then, don’t take any pause in between.

History

Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Shahibjada Jujhar Singh, Sahibjada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh are the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru.

Guruji and his army were attacked by the Mughal army. The Anandpur Sahib fort was the starting point of the conflict. The family was separated after a prolonged battle on the banks of the Sarsa River. Later, the Nawabs asked the Sahibzaades to convert to Islam, but they refused and affirmed their love for Sikhism. This fearless attitude of the youth infuriated the Mughal emperor and as a result, they were immediately buried within the walls.

And in history, this event was later recorded as a supreme sacrifice performed by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh.

Meaning

Veer Bal Diwas is celebrated in honor of the “Sahibzades”, the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh Guru. The date was chosen to commemorate the sacrifice of the youngest Sahibzade. Although all four were martyred, December 26 marks the sacrifice of Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, at the tender ages of six and nine.
