Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are a basketball team from Salt Lake City in the United States. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as part of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division. Since 1991, their home games have been played at the Delta Center.
The team was formed in the 1974-75 season as the New Orleans Jazz, named after New Orleans’ musical history. Then, on June 8, 1979, they moved to Salt Lake City. At first, the Jazz didn’t do well. It took them ten seasons to reach the playoffs in 1984. After that, they didn’t miss the playoffs until 2004.
In the late 1980s, John Stockton and Karl Malone became star players, forming a famous duo in NBA history. Under the leadership of Jerry Sloan, who took over as head coach in 1988, they became a very strong team in the 1990s. They even made it to the NBA Finals twice in 1997 and 1998, but lost both times to the Chicago Bulls led by Michael Jordan.
In 2003, Stockton and Malone both left the team. The Jazz are back on track under Deron Williams after missing the playoffs in three years. But in the middle of the 2010-11 season, after Sloan retired and Williams was traded, the team began to make changes.
In June 2014, Quin Snyder became the head coach. With players such as Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell selected as All-Stars, the Jazz once again became championship contenders. They even had their best record in the 2020-21 season. However, they performed poorly in the 2021 and 2022 playoffs. So, in 2022, they traded Mitchell and Gobert to other teams, and they began a new stage of reconstruction, focusing on Lauri Markkanen, who became an All-Star. After being traded to Mitchell , he became a star in his first season with the Jazz.
