Spheal’s 100% perfect IV in Pokémon Go explained

A great reason to participate in January’s main Community Day is the chance to catch a perfect Spheal in Pokémon Go.

A Spheal with 100% IV stats can evolve into Sealeo and eventually into a powerful Walrein, which is a great choice for fighting in raids, gyms, and Go Battle League.

The CP values that correspond to perfect stats for 15/15/15 are as follows:

  • Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 825 CP
  • Level 35 (maximum CP boosted by weather) – 893 CP

The wild CP value aligns with your current trainer level until you reach level 30, so since the majority of the player base is above this level, we kept these values for simplicity. However, if you are currently below level 30, these values will be different.

Spheal Evolution Chart: What does Spheal evolve into?

Spheal has two evolutions, Sealeo and Walrein, which require 25 and 100 candies per turn.

Spheal (left), Walrein (center) and Sealeo (right).

During Community Day, which will run from 11 am to 5 pm (local time), you will have enough time to collect Spheal Candy to evolve this Pokémon, teach it new moves, and power it up.

You can also use several methods to increase the amount of candy you earn:

  • Using a Pinap Berry will double the amount of candy you receive from 3 to 6.
  • Evolving a water or ice type Mega Evolution, such as Mega Blastoise or Mega Abomasnow, during the event grants 1 extra candy per catch.

These methods are especially useful if you can only play a small part of Community Day, but still want to evolve or power up Spheal.

Before evolving Spheal, remember to check its IV stats or simply look for 3* and 4* to see which ones are worth investing in. Walrein’s exclusive moves, Powder Snow (fast) and Icicle Spear (charged), will also be available until 7 pm (local time) on Community Day. If you miss the moves, you’ll have to use an Elite TM or wait until Community Day in December.

However, what is the best moveset for Walrein?

Walrein Moves Explained and Best Moveset Recommendation

We recommend a moveset of Waterfall (Fast), with Blizzard and Earthquake (Charged) for Walrein in Pokémon Go.

While it may seem strange to ignore both signature moves, it is important to note that Powder Snow provides less damage per second compared to Waterfall. When it comes to charged moves, Blizzard has a base power of 130, which is much higher than Icicle Spear’s 60. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experiment with the new moves to see if you prefer them, but you may end up with a weaker Walrein as a result.

Either way, we highly recommend taking advantage of Walrein’s varied moveset to let him know water, ice, and land moves. Doing so will allow you to adapt quickly in battle, especially if you can’t switch to Walrein at the time.

The above is, of course, our opinion and Walrein’s full moveset, accessed via fast and charged TMs, is as follows:

Quick attacks:

  • Frost Breath (Ice)
  • Powder Snow (Ice) – Elite Fast TM Exclusive/Community Day
  • Waterfall (Water)

Charged Attacks:

  • Blizzard (Ice)
  • Earthquake (land)
  • Icicle Spear – Community Day / Elite Charged TM Exclusive
  • Water pulse (water)

Aside from the chance to create a powerful Walrein, this Community Day is perfect for finding a shiny Spheal…

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Out to Play event is currently taking place. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

What do shiny Spheal, shiny Sealeo, and shiny Walrein look like in Pokémon Go?

Finding a shiny form for the featured Pokémon is one of the biggest attractions of any Community Day.

Along with the increased shiny rate for Community Days and how catching Pokémon of the same type naturally increases your chances of finding shiny, it’s easier to catch a shiny collection during these events.

When it comes to finding a shiny Pokémon, you must first start a catch encounter with a Pokémon in the wild. You’ll then be able to tell if the Pokémon you’re facing is shiny by its alternate color, the sparkles that shine at the start of the encounter, and the shiny icon next to its name.

If this is your first time facing the shiny form of a particular Pokémon, we recommend using Golden Razz Berries and Ultra Balls to increase your chances of catching it.

Shiny Spheal is a recent addition to Pokémon Go and was released as part of Holiday 2021 last month. Since it was released a couple of weeks ago, there’s still a chance that you haven’t been able to add it to your collection yet.

If you want to develop a shiny Spheal, we recommend waiting until the end of Community Day. This is because you may be lucky enough to catch several shiny Spheals, and if so, it’s a good idea to check their IVs.

Doing so will not only give you a shiny Walrein, but a powerful one as well, and if it evolves before 7 pm (local time) on Community Day, it will learn the exclusive moves, Powder Snow and Icicle Spear.

Community Day is the perfect opportunity to find a rare Pokémon and transform it into a powerful fighter. Take the time to carefully choose your Spheals, investing in their moveset, to make the most of this event.
