Why is Ram Navami celebrated?
According to Hindu scriptures, King Dasaratha had three wives but no children, so they performed Putra Kamesti Yagna on the advice of Rishi Vashishth. The queens conceived soon after the kheer served as Prasad. And on the ninth day of the month Chaitra, Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Rama, Sumitra gave birth to Lord Shatrughan and Lord Lakshaman, and Kaikeyi gave birth to Lord Bharat. Since then, Hindu followers have commemorated the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ram with astonishing splendor and fervour.
As the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama created a state of well-being for his people and set an example for all others. He was free from greed, hatred and vices; he stood up for the vulnerable and stood up for what was right against all odds. It was his holistic behavior and great values that made him popular as ‘Maryada Purushottam’.

How is Ram Navami celebrated?
According to Drik Panchang, devotees must observe a one-day fast, thank Lord Ram, recite and listen to the epic Ramayana, celebrate the union of Lord Shri Ram and Lady Sita, organize Ram Navami processions and perform a havan. Apart from worshiping Lord Rama, Rathayatras or chariot processions are held at various places in the country.
