This week’s Featured Hour is all about the virtual Pokémon, Porygon. This means that this is a great opportunity to search for a Shiny Porygon in Pokémon Go.
While Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z (the evolved forms of Porygon) have been used in competitive and raid play over the years, they are now pretty useless in Pokémon Go. Since Porygon is a relatively rare spawn, there’s a good chance you’ll still miss out on the shiny if you missed the September 2020 Community Day, and if you still need the perfect 4* Porygon or the perfect Porygon-Z, this is Your chance. to try to find one.
Even if you don’t like Porygon, you should try to catch as many Pokémon as you can during this week’s Spotlight Hour because of the double candy catch bonus offered alongside the event.

Porygon IV stats 100% perfect in Pokémon Go
This week’s Featured Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Porygon with perfect IV stats.
Porygon.
“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max build, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your 4* Pokédex, Raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Porygon based on CP alone.
If you’re at level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Porygon:
The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.
Are Porygon2 and Porygon-Z good at PvP?
The short answer is no: Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z are pretty bad at Go Battle League; but interestingly, this is one of those rare cases where the mid evolution can outperform the final evolution, depending on your league. Let’s go through this league by league.
Porygon2.
Porygon2, mid-evolution is the way to go for Great League and Ultra League, although that phrase should be taken with a pinch of salt: in Great League, Porygon2 is ranked 427th in the meta, while its evolved form, Porygon-Z . It is ranked 733. It is a huge difference. The reason for this is that Porygon2 has more balanced stats, while Porygon-Z leans towards a stronger attack by sacrificing its defense stat.
If you’re interested in participating in these leagues, you’ll want to run Lock On, Tri Attack, and Zap Cannon. Lock On, as we all know, loads phenomenally fast, even if it deals almost no damage. This helps you progress towards Tri Attack, which gives a 50% chance to weaken the opponent’s attack and defense by one level each. If you need to go big, Zap Cannon offers an Electric-type cover nuke with a 66% chance of weakening the opponent’s attack by one level.
And since nothing is particularly resistant to normal attacks, you know you can dish out decent STAB damage with reasonable shield pressure.
Unfortunately, while Porygon2 is technically only weak to fighting, it has a secret weakness that you should be aware of: it’s weak to good Pokémon. Specifically, Galarian Stunfisk, Swampert, and even Trevenant, a Pokémon it should resist, give it an easy defeat. Sure, it can beat Skarmory and Azumarill, but if those are your biggest concerns, there are better answers you can offer.
The same problems occur in Ultra League, although this chaotic and inconsistent Pokémon fares a little better. Tapu Fini, Walrein, and Talonflame are shocking wins, though the losses will make you cringe: Swampert and Nidoqueen are resistant to Electric-type attacks, Trevenant and Giratina don’t care about Porygon2’s resistance, and Cresselia simply wins in the long game.
Porygon-Z.
Well, what about the Master League? Given the unlimited CP cap, final evolution is always the way to go, and Porygon-Z finally gets its chance to shine, as long as you bring the Community Day and Blizzard exclusive Tri Attack as a cover nuke. Note that the same issues apply as before, although now you also have to deal with the glassiness issue; To put it into context, a maxed out Porygon2 has a higher defense stat than Porygon-Z!
But, if you’re happy with this tactic, Blizzard really takes you up a notch, with dragon-type Garchomp, Giratina, and Zekrom, and flying-type Togekiss and Yveltal all losing out here. Note that the flying dragon Dragonite, however, has a superpower that will destroy you faster than you imagine. You also lose to Metagross, Gyarados, Lugia, and Excadrill, which are pretty common in this meta.
If you want to try Porygon in these leagues, look for the following stats for the respective Pokémon:
- 00/12/15 for Porygon2 in the Great League
- 01/15/15 for Porygon2 in Ultra League
- 15/15/15 for Porygon-Z in the Master League

If luck is on your side, you may find a shiny Porygon in the wild, but keep in mind that this is not a Community Day and shiny rates do not increase, so the chances of catching one, and much less a perfect one, they are very low. . That said, every Porygon you see has the potential to be brilliant, so it’s purely a numbers game: play each and every one of them and see what you get. Good luck finding the Porygon you need!
If you want to turn your Porygon into a Porygon2, you will need 25 Porygon Candies and an upgrade, and you will need 100 more Porygon Candies and a Sinnoh Stone to turn your Porygon2 into a Porygon-Z.
What does the shiny Porygon look like?
As you can see below, the bright Porygon is quite sweet – in each of the three, the color palette is reversed and darkened. The red head and torso take on a beautiful deep blue, while the blue details (beak, wings, and legs) take on a lilac hue that blends incredibly well.

Other tips for this hour of attention
Besides trying to catch a shiny Porygon in Pokémon Go, there are a couple more good reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight:
- The best reason is, of course, the double candy catch bonus that runs throughout the hour. This gives you the opportunity to collect candy twice as fast as usual, and each Porygon captured will give up to 13 candy if you use a Pinap/Silver Berry with a Mega Evolved Pokémon of the same type, instead of the basic 3.
- If you’re a newcomer, this Featured Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Porygon Candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and enter all of its evolutions into the Pokédex.
- Thanks to Porygon being a normal type, catching a bunch during this Featured Hour will add progress to your normal type capture bonus medal.
