It’s time for the 2023 Pokémon World Championships and there’s a Pokémon Go event to help you celebrate!

During the Pokémon World Championships 2023 event in Pokémon Go, you’ll be able to collect event-exclusive Field Research Tasks and complete the Pokémon World Championships 2023 Timed Research Mission.

Evolving certain Pokemon during this event will also allow them to get a specific attack, but, if fighting isn’t your thing, be sure to take the time to catch the newly released Passimian.

Passage of the quest ‘Pokémon World Championship 2023’ in Pokémon Go

The 2023 Pokémon World Championships is a timed research mission that can be completed during the event that shares its name in Pokémon Go.

As this mission has a deadline, you must complete it before Tuesday, August 15 at 8 pm (local time) to earn all its rewards. You will miss out on the rewards if you let this date pass without claiming them.

Below you will find all the quest steps and rewards of the Pokémon World Championship 2023, but be careful: there are spoilers!

Field Research Tasks for the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Pokémon Go

During the 2023 Pokémon World Championships event in Pokémon Go, you might find yourself collecting event-exclusive Field Research tasks by spinning PokéStops. All of these tasks can be saved to your Field Research Collection and completed after the event is over.

These are the Field Research tasks for the 2023 Pokémon World Championships event:

  • Reward for catching 7 Pokémon: World Championship 2023 Encounter with Pikachu, Alolan Sandshrew or Seel
  • Exchange a Pokémon Reward: Passimian or Wimpod encounter
  • Battle in the Go Battle League Reward: 1000 Stardust
  • Power up a Pokémon 5 times as a reward: Magikarp or Spheal encounter
  • Pokémon Power Up 10x Reward: Galarian Zigzagoon Encounter

Notable Attacks During the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Pokémon Go

Five Pokémon can learn a featured attack if you get them through evolution during the Pokémon World Championships 2023 event in Pokémon Go.

These Pokémon, along with the moves, are:

  • Alolan Sandslash – Shadow Claw (Ghost-type Fast Attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 6
    • Gyms and raids – 9
  • Machamp – Recovery (Dark-type Charged Attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 110
    • Gyms and raids – 100
  • Dewgong – Ice Shard (fast ice type attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 12
    • Gyms and raids – 9
  • Dewgong – Icy Wind (Ice Type Charged Attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 60
    • Gyms and raids – 60
  • Walrein – Powder Snow (Ice Type Fast Attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 5
    • Gyms and raids – 6
  • Walrein – Icicle Spear (Ice Type Charged Attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 60
    • Gyms and raids – 60
  • Obstagoon – Obstruct (dark-type charged attack)
    • Trainer Battles – 15
    • Gyms and raids – 20

Note that these attacks can only be obtained if you get the above Pokemon through evolution, so if you want an Alolan Sandslash that knows Shadow Claw, you’ll need to evolve an Alolan Sandshrew using 50 Sandshrew Candy.

All of these moves will be available until the end of the event on Tuesday, August 15 at 8pm (local time).

If you’ve brought a ticket, be sure to complete the Fascinating Facets quest to catch Diancie, as well as capture Carnivine and Pachirisu. Elsewhere in Hidden Gem Season we’ve seen the release of Routes, Zygarde, and a new season of Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to run into Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Everything you need to know about the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Pokémon Go

The 2023 Pokémon World Championships event sees the release of Passimian in Pokémon Go. This Fighting-type Pokémon, known as the Teamwork Pokémon, hails from the Alola region, the home of Generation 7 Pokémon. We recommend catching this Pokémon when you get the chance, so check out our page on how to catch Passimian!

A new costumed Pokémon is also coming to the game at this event: World Championship 2023 Pikachu! This electric mouse wears an event-themed T-shirt and can be caught by defeating it in one-star raids, completing certain event-exclusive Field Research tasks, and completing the timed research mission for this event.

There are two bonuses in the Pokémon World Championship events, the first being an increase in the number of sets you can complete in the Go Battle League, from five to 10. Second, the Pokémon you find as Go Battle rewards. League will have a wider variation in its attack, defense, and HP stats.

Two new avatar items, the Worlds 2023 Jacket and Worlds 2023 Shirt, will be available in the in-game avatar shop from the start of the Pokémon World Championships 2023 event.

In addition to these new avatar items, the gray World Cup 2023 jersey will be available for free, and if you’re watching the World Championship stream, you’ll be able to get a code that will allow you to redeem the yellow version of this jersey.
