Baldur’s Gate 3 Adamantine Forge items and mould locations

Adamantine Forge is both the name of a side quest and an Underdark location in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Using the correct Adamantine Forge items in Baldur’s Gate 3 will start the process of creating a new weapon, shield, or armor, provided you have the mold for it. Keep in mind, however, that once you activate the Adamantine Forge, you will have to face off against the Grym boss. However, we do have a quick and easy strategy for the Grym boss if you’re having trouble with his massive health bar.

To help you get a new piece of gear and complete a side quest, we’re going over the full Forge process below, including all the mold locations and how to get to and activate the Adamantine Forge.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Adamantine Forge Location

The Adamantine Forge is located in the southeast corner of the Underdark Ancient Forge region in Baldur’s Gate 3.

To get here, you need to travel to Grymforge by going to the beach region of the first Underdark area and then travel by boat.

How to get to the Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3

The first step to get to Adamantine Forge is to go to the north corner, go up the stairs in the Underdark – Grymforge area, and clear the debris. We did this by talking to one of the Deep Rothe and convincing him to turn on his masters, then we killed the enemies together and asked Deep Rothe to clean up the rubble afterwards.

If you want to use this method, you need to make sure that one of your party has the Talk to Animals spell. Surely there are alternative ways to clear the debris if you don’t have this spell, but we don’t know of them.

Once you’ve cleared the debris, follow the path until you come to a very long crenellated path rigged with multiple traps. However, watch out for other traps along the way, such as gargoyle statues. We recommend bringing tool kits to disarm traps and a partner like Astarion to defuse traps.

You’ll need to bring at least three Trap Disarming Toolkits for the Battlements path if you don’t want to hurt yourself on the way to the iron staircase in the middle. You might be able to jump the two traps on the floor, but it didn’t work for us when we tried it.

When you get to the ladder, go down it and ungroup (G), then use both levers to bring a platform closer to you.

Have one of your characters jump onto the platform, then activate both levers again to cross the space. Switch to the character on the other side and head to a lever at the end of this path, in the south.

Go back to the character with the first set of levers and return the platform to him. Then jump onto this platform and head south to the end of this path. Then jump onto the floating platform to the left and grab the character by the second set of levers to activate it. This moves the character on the platform to the other side.

Jump off this platform, follow the path, and then jump to the ground at the end. The Ancient Forge waypoint will unlock and you will be able to gather your party again using the waypoint.

Now all you have to do to get to the Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3 is head southeast up the ruined stairs and jump into the Forge area. However, you will need the correct items before you can use the Adamantine Forge.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Adamantine Forge Items

To activate Adamantine Forge you need Mithral Ore and a mold item. Once you have Mithral Ore, select the Crucible in the middle of the Forge and drag and drop it into the empty slot. You may need to move your inventory menu slightly in order to successfully drag and drop the ore.

Now you have to decide what piece of equipment you want to make in Adamantine Forge using one of these six molds:

  • long sword mold
  • shield mold
  • scimitar mold
  • mace mold
  • splint mold
  • scale mail mold

We recommend using the Scale Mail, Splint or Shield mold, as the weapons are not that great compared to what you can easily get during Act 2, but it’s completely up to you!

When you’ve made your decision, select the Mold Chamber next to the Crucible and drag and drop the mold you want to make into it. Don’t worry if you accidentally put in the wrong mold, as you can activate the lever next to the mold chamber to eject a mold if necessary.

With the mithral ore and mold inserted, all you need to do now is activate the forge lever on the south side of the forge, then select the lava valve when the platform is down, but keep in mind that when using the lava valve will start the grym. boss fight! So rest up and position your party away from the center of the platform unless you want a quick kill.

We have a quick and easy strategy for the Grym boss if you are struggling to take down the boss.

If you still need to find Mithral Ore or a certain mold, we’ve detailed their locations below.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mithril Ore Location for Adamantine Forge

We found Mirthal Ore located in the southwestern lava region of the Underdark – Ancient Forge area.

To get to the Mithril ore, you need to follow the path behind where the stairs and walls are in the southeast. However, there are several enemies on the walls here, so be ready for a fight.

Along the way you must hug the edge and then jump towards the Mithril vein on the other side of the lava river. You can also use spells or abilities like Misty Step to help you get across.

The mithril vein is immune to some damage types, but hitting it with a sword worked for us. Once the health of the vein has been depleted, you will get a chunk of mithril ore.

There may be other areas where you can find more mithril ore, but we haven’t found it yet.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mold Locations for Adamantine Forge

There are six molds to find, but you can only use one of them in the Adamantine Forge. We recommend using the Scale Mail, Splint or Shield mold, but it’s up to you!

Here is where to find all six molds in Baldur’s Gate 3:

Long Sword Mold Location

The Longsword Mold is found on the platform just past the first set of levers under the Iron Staircase in the Underdark – Grymforge area. It is on the ground next to a skeleton.

Location of the protective mold

The Shield Mold is located at the top of the stairs behind the double-locked doors accessed using the first platform and a set of levers near the iron staircase. You will need to successfully lockpick the door and then search the skeleton next to the cave-in at the back to get the shield mold.

scimitar mold location

The scimitar cast is found on the corpse next to the second lever that you need to use to bring a character to the Underdark – Ancient Forge area.

Splint Mold Location

The Splint Mold is located on the left path from the Underdark – Old Forge teleport waypoint. Go all the way to the left, up some stairs, then turn left into the lava to see the splint mold between two large gears.

Mailing mold location to scale

The scale mail mold in Baldur’s Gate 3 is located next to the base of the rope ladder to the right of the Underdark – Ancient Forge teleport point. However, there are enemies on the walls, so be ready for the fight.
