You have to fight Grusha, the Frost Ice-type gym leader, during Victory Road in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

However, before fighting him in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must complete the Frosted Gym test on the snowy slope run.

Below, we cover the Snow Slope Run location and how to beat Ice Gym Leader Grusha, so you can add another gym badge to your collection.

How to get to Frosting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

If you haven’t unlocked the Pokémon Center near Frosting yet, the easiest way to get to it in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to exit through the south gate of Montenevera and follow the path up and around the mountain, which leads southeast.

If you haven’t reached Glazed yet, you can get there by following the main path up the mountain northeast of Medali.

If you’re getting lost, remember to set Icing as a destination on your map to make sure it appears as a waypoint on your minimap. Once there, you will find the Gym in front of the Pokémon Center, down a slope.

Snow Slope Run location in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for the Frosting Gym test

To start the Snow Slope Run, you must find the employee in front of the Pokémon Center, next to the snowman. Go back up the slope and you will see a person with a gold text box above it. Please speak to this staff member to begin testing.

In the Glazed Gym test you will face a race against time down the mountain. You’ll have 90 seconds to complete the short descent and must pass through checkpoints along the way.

You can hit one of the flags and it will count as passing through the checkpoint, which helps with some of the tighter turns.

It’s a short test, with no trainers to fight, so you can return to the gym to face Grusha once you finish Snow Slope Run.

Our The Teal Mask walkthrough will help you complete the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, but make sure you know how to start it first. When visiting Kitakami it is a good idea to know how to get Sinistea, Dipplin and The Loyal Three. Our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet walkthrough can take you through the main campaign, including The First Day of School, Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and, when you’re ready, The Way Home and the final boss. Elsewhere, we can help with the normal gym test secret item menu, version differences, the best scarlet and violet starter, XP farming, shiny Pokémon, and learning to fly, swim, climb, and run. When it comes to individual Pokémon, we can help with Gimmighoul, Ditto, Bellibolt, Pawmot, Scovillain, Frigibax, Brambleghast, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Lycanrock, Armarouge, and Ceruledge.

How to Beat Ice Gym Leader Grusha in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Grusha, the leader of the Frosted Gym, loves Ice-type Pokémon and his team reflects that.

Ice-type Pokémon are weak to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel.

This means that you will easily defeat Grusha if you chose Fuecoco or Quaxly as your starting Pokémon, since Fuecoco is a dual Ghost and Fire type, and Quaxy is a dual Water and Fighting type. If you chose Sprigatito, choose strong Pokémon on your team that have strong Fire, Fighting, Rock, or Steel moves.

Just make sure not to use Flying, Ground, Grass, or Dragon types, as they are vulnerable to Ice.

The evolutions of Quaxly and Fuecoco can help you defeat Grusha.

Remember, like all Gym Leaders, Grusha will Terastalize her last Pokémon, so even if it isn’t an Ice-type at first, it will become one.

Grusha’s Pokémon team is:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
Frost 47 Ice/Insect Fire, flight, rock and steel.
Bartic 47 Ice Fire, Fight, Rock and Steel
cetitan 47 Ice Fire, Fight, Rock and Steel
Altaria 48 Dragon / FlyingTerra Type: Ice Dragon, Fairy, Ice and RockTerra Type: Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel

Terastalized Altaria.

For defeating Grusha, you will receive 8640 cash prizes, TM124 Ice Spinner and a gym badge. Increasing the level cap so that Pokémon listen to you and are easier to catch will depend on where you are in the Victory Road story.

Also, depending on where you are in Victory Road, you may have a battle with Nemona after defeating Grusha.

Who will you face next on Victory Road? Will it be Katy, Brassius, Kofu, Iono, Larry, Ryme or Tulip? Or maybe you’re ready to fight the Elite Four and the ultimate champion! If you want to take a break from the gyms, you can always tackle the Path of Legends and Starfall Street stories.
