Pokémon Go Season of Celebration explained – Hemisphere Pokémon, length, new features and Pokémon Go Seasons explained

Seasons in Pokémon Go are something new for Niantic’s augmented reality game: themed periods within the game that will usher in new updates and major additions.

Each season will last around three months, and while existing in-game events will continue to take place, they will be more tied to the theme.

The first, Celebration Season, will coincide with the Go Beyond update, which introduces a level cap increase, the arrival of Pokémon Gen 6, and changes to the Go Battle League and the Pokémon hemisphere concept.

What are seasons in Pokémon Go?

Introduced in December 2020, Seasons are in-game periods, three months long, that will tie various events into a theme and add a host of new features and quality of life changes.

This includes:

  • Changes to the way Pokémon appear from season to season, which may cause some creatures to appear more regularly or become much rarer in the wild for a limited period.
  • Changes to the Pokémon that appear in Eggs and Raids
  • Spawning specific to the northern and southern hemispheres, coinciding with real-world seasons.
  • Highlights specific Mega Evolutions, giving them a power boost throughout the season.
  • New Deerling Shapes
  • A new season of Go Battle League, which will have the same duration as these seasons.
  • Introduce other general improvements in the quality of life.

In addition to these season-by-season changes, each will also introduce specific new features and renewals of existing ones…

What is Celebration Season in Pokémon Go?

Seasons are themed periods of the game that will mark the beginning of new updates and events for Pokémon Go; the first of which is called Season of Celebration and arrives with the Go Beyond update.

Why is the debut season called Celebration Season? This is because it coincides with a number of real-world holidays (Christmas and New Year’s), as well as Pokémon’s 25th anniversary in February.

Continuing with the theme, there are also plans for events for each individual generation of Pokémon, ahead of the general 25th anniversary celebrations to conclude the season, plus “a new global event experience will also be introduced,” according to Niantic.

As with every season, the Celebration Season will also see several additions, revamps, and changes to the game’s systems as part of the Go Beyond update. Specifically, these include:
