Pokémon Go Johto Throwback Challenge 2020 steps and research tasks explained

Pokémon Go Johto Throwback Challenge 2020 steps and research tasks explained

The Johto Throwback Challenge in Pokémon Go is a special mission that aims to celebrate both the second generation of Pokémon and the games that accompanied it.

Throughout this challenge you will be able to capture Pokémon that reference both the Gym Leaders and the history of Pokémon Gold and Silver.

Unlike the Mew and Celebi research missions, Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto does not end in an encounter with a new Pokémon. Still, the final reward is definitely worth all your hard work.

How the ‘Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto’ works in Pokémon Go

The Johto Throwback challenge works like the other research missions that were introduced in March 2018, where players complete various tasks to earn special rewards.

You’ll progress through eight mission steps in Johto Throwback Challenge, which reference both the story and gym leaders of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. During the fourth step of the quest, for example, you’ll get an encounter with a Sudowoodo, which you had to fight before reaching the fourth gym.

Unlike Pokémon Go’s recent paid quests, this event is free for all players. The problem, however, is that you only have one week to access and complete the entirety of the Johto Throwback Challenge, so make sure you don’t fall behind.

The dates and times of the ‘Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto’ in Pokémon Go explained
