There are many ways to find Pokémon in Pokémon Go, some more efficient than others.
To understand the best ways, it’s worth remembering the game’s conceit: the creatures are found in real-world locations, and the app uses Google Maps and Ingress data to place PokeStops, gyms, and other attractions in the game.
It uses different types of areas within the map data to sort where different types of Pokémon should be found. Need some water Pokémon? Then head to a canal, river or lake to increase your chances of finding them.
If you don’t live near suitable habitat (for example, you’re far from any type of water), don’t worry. You can get practically any type of creature anywhere in the world; They are simply more common in some places than others.
Learning how to use the game’s radar, as well as understanding a little about how spawn locations and biomes work, will help you a lot if you want to catch them all.
Where to find Pokémon in spawn locations and biomes
As mentioned, Pokémon are more likely to appear in certain locations than others; Water Pokémon that appear near coastlines, rivers, and canals are an easy-to-understand example of this.
It is important to keep in mind that there are no warranty You will find those types in such places, nor are these types exclusive to these places; I could just increase your chances of being there. The opposite is true: water Pokémon can appear in the middle of a park, miles away from the water.
You may also notice that specific types of Pokémon appear in one location over and over again, and the community has come to describe these spawn points as “biomes.” In theory, the same groups of Pokémon (which usually belong to the same type or two, such as rock or ground, with common to very rare spawns within them) will appear in the same radius; radius is a small point or a large area.
Biomes are not easy to detect and categorize, and the best way to learn the types of biomes nearby is to simply observe them over time using nearby radar. It’s not an exact science, but this post on Silph Road Reddit by Shiranui85 goes into greater detail and even attempts to provide specific examples of different creatures that could appear together.
This is also not to be confused with the concept of Pokémon nests, which are hordes of creatures that regularly rotate within a particular area, such as a park.
That said, the following list of real-world locations can help narrow down the types that should appear there. Again, it’s not exact or guaranteed, but it should give you an idea of what to expect if you’re exploring.
