Monster Hunter World - Beotodus strategy, Beotodus weakness and how to get Beotodus Hardhorn and Cortex explained

Beotodus is in the Hoarfrost Reach, walking through areas 1, 2, 3, and 4 as the battle progresses. Walking through the first few areas should be more than enough for scout flies to quickly pick up your trail.

Beotodus is a fast and powerful creature, sliding across snow-covered ground and emerging to attack, or simply flailing around to deal serious damage.

Beotodus will spend most of the battle moving while submerged in snow, and at this point it is best to maintain a considerable distance, moving in wide circles to stay mobile. He will then glide close to you, allowing you to attack, or dive, before diving or suddenly appearing next to you. If you see this, he runs to the side to avoid the oncoming attack. .

If you are immobilized due to Iceblight, when it dives and attacks it can cause you a lot of trouble, so the goal of the battle is to keep yourself as agile as possible.

First, let’s talk about your offense. It’s after it emerges, or stops moving when it’s on the surface, that you can perform some attacks. Beotodus’s weak points are the fins on its back and the legs underneath, although the latter don’t come into play until it lifts off the ground, either way you’ll want to attack from the side.

Beotodus’s standing form and exposed legs are most common in the second half of the fight, and this is when you can really go to town and deal some serious damage.

Until then, having to wait for him to emerge and remain still for much of the battle can be a lengthy process, so there are a few things you can do in the meantime. One is to use Screamer Pods, which you can shoot into the ground to bring Beotodus into the light. Beotodus will only dive for a second or two, so it is difficult to time this.

The other is to use the claw and clutch assembly. This is best used on slower creatures, but can be used effectively against the Beotodus when it has just emerged, standing still between attacks, or retreating. Clutch Claw won’t deal much damage, but it means you’re out of range of its attacks and slashing where you can instead of waiting for Beotodus to come at you.

Beotodus on its own isn’t too difficult once you learn its attacks and moves, but a big factor is having to adapt to the cold. Two things you can do is keep using hot drinks to keep your temperature (and stamina) up, and the other is to avoid Iceblight.

You can get this through submerged attacks (you can tell by your stamina bar turning blue, the ice covering your body, and the little icicle icon above your health bar) and while it will naturally disappear on its own, you’ll see your stamina it decays much faster as long as the damage has taken hold, a problem when you’ll want to maintain mobility against an agile fighter like this.

A faster way to take out Iceblight is to find a hot spring, of which there is one in the corner of area 2. Beotodus can follow you when you use it, so keep an eye out for the monster while you recover.

Once Beotodus starts standing on the ground, you know you’re on your way to winning the fight. He will continue to alternate between those two phases even until he is knocked down. The key is to take your time and be patient, especially if he is affected by Iceblight, as he can take the better part of 50 minutes with less powerful equipment to take him down.
