FTAC Recon is a powerful battle rifle in Modern Warfare 2, allowing for safe play without needing to stray too far from the action during a match.
You can’t play run-and-gun, nor take the same range as a sniper, but it more than makes up for it with its ability to kill an enemy in three shots.
To protect you from Modern Warfare 2 enemies who may sneak up behind you and help you make the most of the weapon’s potential, we’ve put together this walkthrough of the best FTAC Recon loadout, what attachments and perks you should use, and how to unlock the FTAC Recon.

How to unlock FTAC Recon in Modern Warfare 2
To access FTAC Recon, you must level the M4 to level 13.
Compared to other battle rifles, unlocking the FTAC Recon is pretty easy considering it’s part of the M4 tree.
After that, all you need to do is progress through the FTAC Recon tree to unlock attachments. Doing so will even unlock another weapon, the FSS Hurricane.
Modern Warfare 2 FTAC Recon best equipment and accessories
These are the best FTAC Recon loadouts and accessories from Modern Warfare 2:
- Rear Handle: CP90 Grip Support
- Barrel: Bull Rider 16.5” or 419MM EXF Barrel
- Under the barrel: VX pineapple
- Optics: HMW-20 Optics
- Stock: Precision Elite Factory Demo
This list of accessories focuses on improving the FTAC Recon’s ability to hit enemies at medium and long range.
While this is a strong battle rifle, it is easier to make it shine by taking a good position and hunting enemies away from you.
The Support CP90 rear grip comes with more aiming stability and recoil resistance. By equipping it, you lose some mobility and handling, but you gain accuracy, which helps you hit farther away enemies.
In the barrel slot, using the Bull Rider 16.5” is the best option because it increases recoil control, damage range, bullet speed, and damage range.
Since it takes some time to unlock, you can use the 419mm EXF cannon until then.
In terms of what to choose for the underbarrel groove, the VX Pinapple works thankfully as it increases accuracy and recoil control stats.
Now, having the HMW-20 optic is essential for this equipment to work, since it will help you target medium and long-range enemies.
FTAC Recon has very few options for the original slot, but the Demo Precision Elite Factory version helps make this load work mainly by adding more recoil control to the build.

The best Modern Warfare 2 FTAC Recon class build, from perks to gear
Our picks for the best Modern Warfare 2 secondary loadout, perks, and FTAC Recon loadouts are:
- Core Benefit 1: Hype
- Basic Perk 2: Tactical Extra
- Additional benefit: concentration or fast hands
- Max Profit: Phantom
- Secondary: Speed 12
- Tactic: Flash Grenade
- Lethal: Proximity Mine or Claymore
- Field Upgrade: Ammunition Box
Continuing with the idea of finding a safe position to take down your enemies, this build aims to improve your survivability.
The two basic perks, Overkill (which allows you to carry two main weapons) and Extra Tactical (which grants an extra lethal), are important to help you in situations where the FTAC Recon won’t work very well.
In terms of the additional benefit, your choice depends on the type of game you are in.
Focus helps you with long-range shots, which is great for Invasion, for example. Fast Hands increases the speed with which you switch between weapons and reload them, an important skill if you’re in a Quick Play match.
The ultimate perk, Ghost, is quite powerful in this build, as it hides you from enemy UAVs, portable radars, and heartbeat sensors.
After all, your goal is to find a place to stay for a while looking for enemies, which will make you easier to spot.
The Expedite 12 is a great shotgun to have as a secondary. Compensates for FTAC Recon’s inadequacy for close combat.
The same can be said for the Flash Grenade, as it can be used to protect you from an enemy approaching your position or to check if a room is safe.
Considering situations where you are hiding in a room or alley with more than one entrance, placing a Proximity Mine or Claymore will cover your back.
The Ammunition Box is a good field upgrade considering you need about three shots to kill an enemy and the FTAC Recon comes with a total of 50 rounds.
We want you to stay alive as long as possible, so the Ammunition Box prevents you from running out of bullets.
