Marvel’s Avengers character roster offers a new take on the superhero franchise’s familiar heroes.
At launch, there are six playable characters, many of whom have appeared in the MCU over the last decade, from Thor to Iron Man to the Hulk, although some new surprises are also expected.
The Avengers campaign will unlock them individually as you progress through the story, although those who want to skip to the end of the game can start with any character they want.
More characters will be coming as part of Marvel’s Avengers DLC, all of which will arrive as part of free updates, and one will come to PlayStation as an exclusive.

In addition to the above, Square Enix plans to release new characters to the game for free.
All characters will receive the same treatment as the original cast of six, including unique moves, equipment sets, outfits, emotes, and more. Most (if not all) will also come with their own quest chains.

In addition to the previously confirmed DLC characters, a datamine of the beta’s playable characters apparently reveals many more on the way.

How to change and unlock characters in Marvel’s Avengers explained
In Marvel’s Avengers, there are six playable characters at launch, and how you access them depends on which mode you’re playing.
In the “free play” Avengers Initiative mode and the final part of the campaign, you will have full access to all available characters.
To change characters, first visit the War Table. This is where you select which mission you want to play next.
Now press Options (on PlayStation) or Menu (on Xbox) as shown on the screen to bring up the list of characters.
In the campaign, you must unlock each playable character one by one as part of the story; The game will make it obvious when a new character is unlocked.
Although not all campaign missions allow you to play with all the characters for story reasons, for those where everyone forms a strike team, you can choose any from the list you have access to.
