Shortly after arriving in Madison, you will come across a well in Grandpa’s house and you will need to enter the correct solution to the crime scene puzzle to continue the story.
After choosing the right symbols, you’ll have to crack open the crime scene, which is a mini-puzzle in itself.

Madison Crime Scene Lockout Puzzle Solution Explained
After solving the generator puzzle and exploring the area a bit, you’ll find a red door in the basement. Once you take a photo of the red door, you’ll enter a strange area covered in yellow crime scene tape. At the back of this room is a shaft with three locks holding a concrete slab over its entrance.
The first step to opening the well and continuing the story is to enter the correct symbol for each of these crime scene locks, and you may already have the puzzle solution at your disposal.
I’m sure opening the well with the pentagram symbol on top will work out fine.
If you’ve been taking pictures of the black Polaroids scattered around the two houses, check the stack of photos in your inventory to see the pentagram drawing on the wall near the TV and newspaper clippings of Madison’s crimes.
If you didn’t take a photo of this pentagram drawing, you’ll have to return to the room containing it, but it shouldn’t take long to backtrack. Head to Grandpa’s kitchen and then go through the door next to the dining room table. Turn right and you will see the drawing on the wall next to the TV.
Be sure to take a photo of the staff drawing to reveal the correct symbols.
To reveal the solution to the Madison Crime Scene Lock puzzle, take a photo of the pentagram drawing on the wall. Shake the polaroid to reveal it, then look in the photo for the three symbols that appear inside the circles on the polaroid drawing, but not on the wall itself.
We would have given you the exact three symbols to save you some time backtracking, but like many puzzles in Madison, the symbols are randomized for each match.
Once you know the three correct crime scene lock symbols for your match, return to the well behind the red door in the basement.
Enter the bottom left symbol on your image for crime scene lock left, then the bottom right symbol for crime scene lock right and finally enter the top symbol of your image on crime scene lock left. crime scene at the back of the well.
Go behind the well to enter the same symbol found at the top of the staff drawing.
In short, here’s how to get the correct solution to the Madison crime scene lock puzzle:
- Go to the TV room with newspaper clippings on the wall.
- Take a photo of the pentagram drawing on the wall.
- Go to the crime scene behind the red door in the basement.
- Enter the symbol from the bottom left in your image in the padlock on the left
- Enter the symbol from the bottom right in your image in the padlock on the right
- Enter the top symbol in your image into the lock at the back of the well.
You’ll know you’ve entered the correct symbols for all three locks when you can no longer interact with them.
How to properly open a crime scene in Madison
After following the steps above and solving the crime scene lock puzzle, you may be wondering how to get into the well.
You can go through your inventory and try to put an item on it, but nothing you try to put in the well will work, even though the annoying message allows you to try.
Fortunately, there’s no more backtracking, as all you have to do to get a good look at the Madison crime scene is take a photo of the well.
As soon as you take the photo, the slab above the pit will explode and create an entrance. All you have to do next is go down the ladder to continue the story.
