Passports carry power. Normally, to travel outside your own country, it is necessary to apply for a visa. However, powerful passports help you travel with ease, usually without the need for a visa.

According to an index, Singapore successfully topped the list of the most powerful passports in the world. Previously, Japan topped the list five consecutive times.

World’s Most Powerful Passport Rankings: Hanley Passport Index

In around 192 countries around the world, Singapore citizens can make the most of a visa-on-arrival or visa-free visit. This enormous number of countries represents 85% of the entire world. This means that Singapore citizens can travel to around 85 per cent of the world with just their passports, without the hassle of obtaining a visa before travel. No wonder Singapore’s passport had to be the strongest in the world.

The Hanley Passport Index uses data from the International Air Transport Association to list the world’s most powerful passports. According to the index, the second place on the list is Germany, Italy and Spain, while the third place is shared by 7 countries, including Japan. Check out the full list below:
