What are soldier skills and soldier cards in Like a Dragon Ishin?
After Chapter 5 ‘The Iron Code’, you will have access to a small troop of soldiers to assist you throughout the game. In Like a Dragon: Ishin! Each soldier is represented by a Trooper card, and by equipping one of them you have access to Trooper abilities, which are special abilities and skills you can use during a fight.
There are five types of Trooper skills: offensive, defensive, medical, assist and support. Because of that, you can find soldier skills, such as a small damage buff for a specific combat style, a heal-over-time skill, and a powerful skill that causes an explosion around you.
In addition to Trooper abilities, you also increase your health and have access to passive abilities called Body Traits by equipping Trooper cards.
Each Trooper card not only comes with a different status, but is also part of one of five rarity tiers. While rarity determines the card’s maximum level, which ranges from 40 to 99, a Troop card has a specific health value and charge speed. These will increase as the card levels up, which can be done by using them in combat. And while it’s not crucial to determine a card’s power, they are also divided into Sword Troopers, Spear Troopers, and Gun Troopers. The effects of some Body Traits are determined by the number of a certain type of Soldier in the squad.
Once you have progressed through the game’s story and become the captain of the Third Division, you will be able to edit your soldiers in the Pause Menu or by speaking to the Mission Receptionist, an NPC that you can find east of the Barracks. . In this menu, you can edit your squad of Troopers, as well as upgrade the cards you already have by merging or promoting them. You can even enhance their body features by giving them the specific item they are looking for.
Initially, you can form squads of up to three soldiers, but this number can increase as you progress through the game and acquire new Soldier cards. Each squad is tied to one of the four combat styles that Ryoma uses, so finding a good mix of soldier skills and corporal skills can give you the advantage in many situations.
How to recruit soldiers in Like a Dragon Ishin
As the story progresses and enemies become stronger, having new and better soldiers becomes a concern for most players. When it comes to finding new Trooper cards with better Trooper abilities, there are three methods.
The first method of recruiting new soldiers is to defeat random enemies on the streets of Kyo. As you walk through the city, you will eventually face a group of men who will challenge you for many different reasons. When you win the fight, among the defeated NPCs there may be a man with a gold, silver or bronze hood. Realizing how strong you are, they may ask you to be part of their squad. The downside to this method is how difficult it is to find hooded men to fight.
As for the second method you can use to recruit new Troopers, it is quite similar to the first. Every time you complete quests in Battle Dungeons, you have a chance to receive a request from one of the enemies you defeated to join your squad. These missions can be accessed by speaking to the mission receptionist in the Barracks. Like the first method, randomness is a factor that you must take into account. There is a chance that you will complete a quest and not receive any requests.
The third option is more certain that you will get a new soldier, but requires you to spend some of the money you have to recruit him. By speaking with the mission receptionist, you can select the enlistment menu. This method is a gacha system where you choose a level for a unit. Although you can choose the cheapest tier and still drop a rare or epic card, your chances increase by paying for the more expensive ones. There are four levels with different prices (5000 min 1 ryo, 5 ryo and 10 ryo) and each one is unlocked as you progress through the story.
You can increase the number of Troops you have by upgrading slots by using Virtue Points at temples. Constantly recruiting new soldiers can be helpful because some of the ones you already have might choose to leave if you lose too many battles with them in your squad.
