How to ride animals in Fortnite

The ability to ride animals in Fortnite was introduced at the start of Chapter 3 Season 3, giving players a new way to traverse the ever-changing island.

So far you can only ride a wolf or a boar, as they are the only large animals roaming the map, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Raptors return to Fortnite soon.

You can find information on animal locations and how to ride animals in Fortnite below, including useful information on how to control your new best friend.

Animal Locations in Fortnite

You will first have to find an animal in Fortnite before you can ride it. As in previous seasons, wild boars are most often found within fenced areas on the outskirts of some locations, such as Shifty Shafts, but can also be found in and around wooded areas. This season, they also appear to be wandering the snowy mountains around Logjam Lumberyard.

Wild Boars (Aggressive) can be found in Shifty Shafts and near wooded areas.

Wolves can also be found in and around forested areas, and are more likely to roam named places near forests. So far, The Daily Bugle has found wolves more consistently.

However, the location of an animal is not guaranteed, as they like to wander around the map during the game. We recommend finding a boar inside a pen in a location like Shifty Shafts before another player does.

Head to Logjam Lumberyard to locate wild boars or to the fields around The Daily Bugle to find wolves.

How to ride animals in Fortnite

Now that you’ve found a wolf or a boar, you’ll need to know how to ride an animal in Fortnite. The good news is that it’s not as laborious as it used to be to tame them!

To ride an animal in Fortnite, you just need to jump on its back. No additional inputs are needed, simply press the jump button and aim for the animal’s back to start riding it for as long as you want, as long as an opponent doesn’t take it out.

While riding an animal, you can shoot and throw objects if necessary. You can even swim on the back of a wolf or wild boar, so you never have to leave your new friend behind. As an added bonus, you’ll also get 80 XP for each animal you ride.

The animals are also pretty fast when they run, but they probably won’t get you around the map as fast as a good vehicle. However, they are much better for navigating rough terrain such as mountainous areas, as you can make them jump over obstacles.

When you need to stop riding an animal, you can double jump or press the “Dismount” message that appears in the lower left corner of the screen. Once you’re ready to get back on, simply return to the wolf or boar and jump on its back again.
