How to redeem promo codes in Pokémon Go on iOS and Android

Pokémon Go promo codes allow users to receive bonus items through special promotions.

The ability to redeem codes can be done through both Android and iOS, although the methods between the two differ.

Despite its launch in 2017, there have only been a few promotions to date. In 2020, with the Covid-19 pandemic, Niantic began rolling out promotional codes to help isolated players get items, and in 2021, it saw collaborations with brands to redeem avatar items using codes.

How to Redeem Promo Codes on iOS and Android in Pokémon Go

The process of redeeming promotional codes differs from one platform to another.

The promotions are only available on Android, so far.

To redeem promotional codes on Android in Pokémon Go, the process is simple; Tap the Pokeball menu on the main map screen, then Shop and scroll to the bottom to see an input field where you can enter the code.

Alternatively, Android players can use the same method as iOS users, described below.

For iPhone owners, you cannot enter codes through the app, and Apple is known to restrict entering codes within apps in its store.

To redeem promo codes on iOS in Pokémon Go, you must visit the official Niantic rewards website.

Sign in with the same account you would play Pokémon Go with in the app, then enter the code in the field.

It should be noted that Pokémon Trainer Club accounts will not work through this website; instead, you must link that account with another type (like Google or Facebook) to log in.

Once you’ve redeemed the code, you should receive a notification the next time you log into the game.

For veteran players of Niantic games, this process is nothing new, as Ingress had the same web interface for codes on iOS.

And, if for some reason you can’t access the web interface, if you’re an iOS user you can log into the game using your account on an Android device and redeem the code that way. Probably the longest route, but options are options!

Where can you find Pokémon Go promo codes?

Most promo codes are given directly to players in emails to encourage them to return to the game, but from time to time, Niantic will release Pokémon Go promo codes for any member of the community to redeem on their account.

Sometimes these are associated with events and marketing links. An example from late 2021 was a themed hoodie as part of the collaboration with Ed Sheeran. These codes are also typically time-limited, meaning you must redeem them before a certain date, such as before the event ends.

Otherwise, the best place to find them is at Niantic Support Twitter Page. These are issued infrequently and can expire in less than 24 hours, so be sure to redeem them as soon as you can.

As always, promotional codes can be used once per account and will only be available for a limited time.

As for those specific promotions or gift codes, we look at their history in the next section…

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

What is the history of Promotional Codes in Pokémon Go?

In 2017, Niantic originally acknowledged the feature on its official support site with the following:

“Pokémon GO occasionally offers promotional codes through our partnerships and special events. Promo codes can be used to redeem items such as Poké Balls, Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs, and more.”

What does that mean in practice? Over time, we have seen the origin of several codes, including:

Until now the use of codes has been scarce. Where could the game go next?

On the one hand, Niantic could continue to team up with various partners around the world (as they have done with Sprint), such as Starbucks in the United States, 7-Eleven in Korea, and Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers across Europe.

While these collaborations have primarily involved sponsored PokeStops and gyms (and in the case of Starbucks, a specialty drink), it’s easy to conceive of situations where free promotional codes are given out for using their services.

We can also get some clues from Niantic’s other augmented reality game, Ingress, which hands out codes directly to players on a regular basis via social media and events.

The code provided ranges from being single-use to redeemable across multiple accounts, leading to lists being shared on Reddit and Pastebin for anyone to use (although they sometimes get locked after a certain number of uses).

Codes are known to be handed out by Niantic itself within encrypted puzzles, as well as during official fan meetings.

As for what the codes will unlock, as cited above, it appears that free items available at PokéStops (specifically Poké Balls) as well as paid consumables (Lure Modules and Lucky Eggs) will be available.

There are also hopes that community promo codes could be used for more substantial unlocks, such as rare Pokémon or even Pokémon, but there is nothing yet to support such speculation.
