Pokémon Sleep offers a new way to create a collection of sleepy variations of our favorite Pokémon, but there are still familiar mechanics present to enhance our little friends’ abilities, even in a game designed around napping.
Although they are not used for fighting, you still need to level up and evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep so that your helpers can gain useful abilities, among other benefits.

How to level up Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep
There are two ways to level up Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep:
- Sleeping
- Use candy and dream fragments
Sleeping
To level up a sleeping Pokémon, you must have that Pokémon on your current team before starting a sleeping session. You can change your team by going to the “Pokémon” menu at the bottom left of the screen and then selecting “Edit teams.”

Enter the Pokémon you want to level up into your active party, and when you wake up and choose to end a sleep session, your helper will have earned some EXP and could level up!
You can also increase the EXP gained from sleeping by using items like Growth Incense.
Use candy and dream fragments

For instant EXP, you can use Dream Shards with different types of Candy to level up in Pokémon Sleep. To level up this way, you must first collect seven different Pokémon styles. This unlocks the “new way to breed Pokémon” reward which can be seen in the Sleep Style Dex Goal menu.
You unlock new styles of Pokémon by completing sleeping sessions to attract Pokémon and then feeding them a cookie to make them friends. Certain Pokémon and their associated styles are only available if you sleep in one of three ways: snoozing, snoozing, or sleeping.
Once you have collected seven Dream Styles, you need to go to the ‘Pokémon’ menu and then ‘Pokémon Box’. Select the Pokémon you want to upgrade and press ‘Level Up’. You can then level up that Pokémon using a combination of:
- That pokemon’s candy
- practical candy
- dream fragments

You get a Pokémon’s specific candy by collecting its different styles after sleeping sessions. The more a particular Pokémon appears, the more candy you will get.
There’s also a chance you can get candy by tapping your Helper Pokémon on the main screen, although it’s part of a loot box that also contains ingredients and possibly more types of items.
Lastly, you can also get candy by sending Pokémon to Professor Neroli. Just like transferring in Pokémon GO, this removes that Pokémon from your storage.

This is Pokémon Sleep’s version of Rare Candy, meaning you can use Handy Candy on any Pokémon to level it up. Handy Candy comes in three sizes: S, M, and L – the bigger the Candy, the more EXP your Helper Pokémon gets.
You can obtain Handy Candy by completing Missions and purchasing them from the Regular Exchange and Premium Exchange stores.
dream fragments
Think of Dream Shards as Pokémon Sleep’s version of Stardust in Pokémon GO. You must use it with Candy to be able to level up a helper Pokémon. If you don’t have enough Dream Shards, that Pokémon won’t be able to level up, even if you have a lot of Candies.
Dream Shards are acquired after dream sessions, completing quests, consuming Dream Cluster items, and selling ingredients. Dream Clusters can be obtained in places such as bundles in the General Store, the Premium Exchange store, and in the ‘luxurious rewards’ given to Premium Pass subscribers every three months.
You can also use ‘Lucky Incense’ to double the dream fragments received after completing the dream research.
How to evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep

You must level up Pokémon to specific levels and spend candy to evolve them in Pokémon Sleep. Each Pokémon has a different level at which it evolves, and some even require items like evolution stones, King’s Rock, and Linking Cord.
These evolution items can be obtained from the regular exchange store by spending dream points.
Additionally, although we haven’t been able to confirm it ourselves yet, if a Pokémon had a happiness requirement or steps to evolve in the main series of games, then you may need to have that helper Pokémon on your team while you sleep during a set. number of hours before they can evolve.
You can check what level and candy requirements you need to evolve a particular Pokémon by selecting the “Evolve” button right next to the “Level Up” button in the “Pokémon Box” menu.
Once you meet the requirements, you can use this evolution menu to evolve your Pokémon.
