The Fire Trailblazer in Honkai: Star Rail is one of the most useful characters and the good news is that you can get him for free.
Although he is often known in the community as Fire Trailblazer, the reason this variation of the main character in Honaki: Star Rail is so good has nothing to do with his Element: it is his shift to the Preservation path and the ability of their Ability to tank damage for their team which makes them so valuable.
Unfortunately, there’s a bit of a wait until you unlock your main character’s Preservation path in Jarilo VI, but we’ve gone over exactly how to get the Fire Trailblazer in Honkai: Star Rail and how to switch to the Fire Trailblazer below to prepare. to find out when you can get them, and we’ve also detailed how to get Fire Trailblazer Eidolons to make them even better.

How to get the Fire Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail
You get the Fire Trailblazer for free as part of the story near the end of the Trailblaze Mission chain in Jarilo VI. Specifically (no spoilers), the Fire Trailblazer is automatically unlocked during the ‘The Paths to the Past Have Long Been Closed’ portion of the Trailblaze mission from Chapter 1 ‘In the Sweltering Morning Sun’.

During ‘The Dawn Here…’, part of the Trailblaze quest ‘The Paths to the Past Have Been Long Closed’, you will have to fight Cocolia on Everwinter Hill. After the battle scene where the Trailblazer is launched into the air, they will have to face Cocolia alone. It may seem like an unfair battle, but after a while another cutscene will play and you will be transported to a new area.
It is in this new area where you will pick up a Fire Sword and then return to the game as Fire Trailblazer.

After the Cocolia battle, you’ll be able to switch between different Trailblazer items and paths at any time when you’re out of combat and challenges.

How to switch to Fire Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail
To switch between Fire Trailblazer and other versions, you must go to the character menu and switch to your current Trailblazer. Then, press the ‘Change’ button that appears at the bottom right of the screen. Now you can freely choose the Trailblazer you want!

However, as of this writing, you must manually change the light cone and relics on your Trailblazer every time you switch. This can be annoying, so we suggest you transfer the Cone of Light and Relics to a character you are not using to store them. Then, when you switch back, you can easily tell what you had equipped before by checking the Cone of Light and the placeholder character’s Relic.
Leveling up and ascending your Trailblazer remains the same across all variants, but trails and eidolons are not shared as they are specific to each path and element.
How to get Eidolons Fire Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail
Eidolons upgrade a character’s skills, passive talents, and stats, but unlike any other character in the game, you don’t get duplicates in Banners to get the Fire Trailblazer’s Eidolon levels. Instead, to get Fire Trailblazer Eidolons in Honkai Star Rail you have to:
- Complete the pioneer quest ‘Humming Horns, Intertwining Horns’.
- Complete the pioneer quest “A Gallant Dragon, His Distant Ocean.”
- Purchase Shadow of Preservations at the Jeweler’s Pagoda World Store in the Central Starskiff Haven area of Xianzhou Luofu.

This basically means that you have to reach the end of the Trailblaze Mission in Xianzhou Luofu to get all the Eidolon Fire Trailblazer. However, getting four by purchasing them from the World Store isn’t bad in the meantime!
It costs 250 Strales to purchase a Shadow of Preservation at the Jeweler’s Pagoda. Strales are obtained by doing activities in Xianzhou Luofu, such as opening chests and completing adventure quests.
