Having better gear isn’t just a way to prevent your character from dying in Diablo 4, it’s also a way to change the way your class plays, especially when it comes to legendary gear.

How to get legendary gear in Diablo 4
As you progress through the game, you will be able to access higher levels of equipment. Legendary Gear isn’t the highest level of gear in the game, but it does improve your character considerably once you start dropping the first few pieces. This is because, in addition to having more affixes than the Rare level, Legendary items also have Aspects, which can add effects or change your abilities.
While there are many ways to find equipment in Diablo 4, some methods have a higher chance of netting you legendary items.
Below you will find a list of activities from which you can obtain legendary equipment:
Complete dungeons and events.
There are a good number of dungeons you can explore in Diablo 4, and since you end up facing a lot of enemies within them, you have a better chance of finding legendary gear. Most of them have a final boss that can also eliminate legendaries. On top of that, some dungeons, once completed, unlock aspects of your Power Codex, which is also pretty useful until you find some good legendary gear.
Another good option is to complete the events that you find scattered throughout Sanctuary. During the campaign or as you level up in the endgame, you may stumble upon an event that could give you a chest from which you can obtain legendary gear. These events are usually easy to complete, making it a good way to farm legendaries.
Boss World
World bosses are extremely powerful enemies that appear in Sanctuary from time to time. If you’re level enough to challenge them, defeating a world boss is a good way to get legendary gear.
This method requires a little more than completing dungeons or events, but it’s not a deterrent for new players who have just reached the end game. And you don’t have to worry about finding a group before the fight starts, as receiving an invite from other players who are also waiting for the boss is common.
Hell Tide Events
Helltide events are probably the best method for farming legendaries. When a Hell Tide begins, an entire region of the Sanctuary fills with stronger enemies that drop Cinders, which you can use to open slot chests for specific items. There are chests for rings or weapons, for example, and legendaries always come in these chests.
On the other hand, Helltide events are perhaps one of the most difficult methods for players just starting out in endgame. First of all, you have to unlock world level 3. Then when you participate in a Helltide event, you have to avoid dying because you lose half of the ashes you have when you do. On top of that, you can’t save the ashes for the next Helltide event. If you don’t spend them during the event you’re participating in, they will disappear once you leave the area.
Whispers of the dead
Whispers of the Dead is the second best way to get legendary gear, although it does take some time. Once you’ve finished the campaign, you’ll unlock the Whispers of the Dead system, which is tied to quests spread throughout Sanctuary. Your goal is to complete these quests to earn Grim Favors.
After you get 10 Grim Favors, you can visit the Tree of Whispers in Hawezar and spend them to claim a box that contains many items and usually legendary equipment. While the crates indicate in their name what type of item it might contain (Helm Collection, for example, it might have a legendary helm), it’s not certain if the crates have a legendary item or not, and if it does, it could be for some other space for elements.
Still, spending Grim Favors to get crates is an easy and safe way to farm legendaries.
