How to get Abyssal and Hadal fishing catches in Dredge

Abyssal and Hadal catches refer to two of the categories of fish you can find in Dredge, and to catch them you need a specific type of fishing rod.

While fishing rods for other categories, such as coastal or shallow, can be gradually unlocked using research pieces from the beginning of Dredge, you can only access the abyssal and hadal fishing gear once you’ve completed part of a chase.

However, once unlocked, you will be able to fish for Abyssal and Hadal catches to your heart’s content and find the Ring relic. Look below to learn how to get Abyssal and Hadal Fishing Catches in Dredge.

How to Unlock Deep Fishing Catches in Dredge

To unlock Nether Fishing in Dredge, you must complete the first part of the Collect All Samples quest for the Research Assistant in the Ancient Fortress in Stellar Basin.

The Ancient Fortress is located on the island northwest of the main part of Stellar Basin; Its coordinates are D5.

The location of the Old Fortress.

For this Search, the Research Assistant will ask you to find:

  • 1 aurora jellyfish
  • 1 firefly squid
  • 1 glowing octopus

The aberrant forms of these fish will not count towards this Quest.

Below we describe when, where and how we find these fish:

Aurora Jellyfish Location

Aurora jellyfish only appear in Stellar Basin at night and can only be caught with trawl nets. Since it is a coastal jellyfish, we recommend using the improved trawl to ensure you only catch fish from its spawning pool. Occupy four square-shaped squares in your cargo.

We found the Aurora Jellyfish cruising around the Stellar Basin area (avoiding the sea monster, of course) while using the upgraded trawl net. This also caught us a couple of firefly squid.

Firefly Squid Location

Firefly squid can only be caught at night in Stellar Basin. It is a coastal creature and can be caught by trawl or pole, both methods should be able to catch coastal catches. A firefly squid will occupy two rectangle-shaped squares.

We found firefly squid both fishing with the improved trawl and anti-tangle line; The fishing spot we used was just northwest of the Starlight Pontoon.

Helpfully, you can see the blue glow of the firefly squid beneath the waves!

Glowing Octopus Location

The Glowing Octopus can only be caught at night in Stella Basin. It appears in shallow water and can be caught using a crab pot or a rod that can take shallow catches. A glowing octopus will occupy four T-shaped squares.

We found the glowing octopus using the Simple Skimmer rod and fishing a spot deep inside the western sandbar of Stellar Basin. Like the firefly squid, the blue glow of these octopuses is visible above the water, making them easy to find!

If you are using a crab pot to find a glowing octopus, remember to check it regularly, as it will need to be repaired after a certain number of days.

After giving you these fish, the research assistant will have another job for you: recover the prototype parts from the research station.

If you haven’t visited it yet, the Research Outpost is located near the northeast opening of Stellar Basin, just east of the Ring relic dredge site. Its coordinates are G4.

The location of the research post.

Upon reaching the research station, you will need to investigate the laboratory and there you will find the prototype parts by selecting “Inspect the equipment on the table”. The prototype pieces will occupy two rectangle-shaped squares.

With the prototype parts stored in your cargo, it’s time to return to the researcher in the old fortress. She will give you the sampling device, which will allow you to do deep sea fishing!

He will also give you a device that will help you reach the Ring relic dredging site.

Now you can catch abyssal fish!

How to Unlock Hadal’s Fishing Catches in Dredge

If you want to catch fish from the Hades Fishing category in Dredge, you must first unlock the Nether Fishing. After doing so, you will find that Bottomless Lines is now available to unlock in the Research section.

You will need a research part to unlock the bottomless lines, which allow you to catch abyssal and hadal fish.

Research Pieces can be found by dredging certain locations in the sea, completing certain chases, and in interesting locations you discover in the waves, such as abandoned ships.

You will also receive a research portion as part of your quest to recover the Ring relic. This is great, because you need a rod that can catch Hadal fish to get this relic!

After unlocking the Bottomless Lines Rod, you will be able to invest three pieces of research into the Fathomless Winch. This rod can fish for abyssal, hadal and oceanic fish.

Good luck catching Abyssal and Hadal fish!
