Backpack Tokens Explained – What are backpack tokens in Spider-Man and what are they used for?

Backpack Tokens are one of the six special resources you can earn in Spider-Man.

They are one of the first to become available, about an hour into the game, right after solving your first crime, when you fix the first Watchtower with Yuri.

They are obtained by collecting backpacks, which are literally old backpacks that Peter Parker owned when he was first becoming familiar with his powers in high school. They’re scattered throughout the city in secluded locations, and each one contains a different item from Spider-Man’s past that gives you a little insight into the expanded history of this universe.

To find and collect them, simply look on your map for the green Backpack symbol, head there, and listen for the “beep” sound they make when you’re nearby. Once you find one, simply walk over and press Triangle when prompted to pick it up.

What are backpack tokens used for?

There are a couple of uses for backpack tokens, both quite similar: one is to unlock alternate suits, or Spider-Man suits, from the Suits page of the menu. Different suits require different Tokens (remember there are six different types) and we list which suits require which in our guide linked above.

The other is to purchase upgrades, such as Suit Mods, Gadgets, and Gadget upgrades. Suit mods are again seen in the Suits tab, while gadgets and gadget upgrades have their own page.

Mods are unlocked as you progress through levels, similar to many outfits, while gadgets are also unlocked at various points in the story as you progress.

How to earn backpack tokens quickly

There’s no real way to speed up the process of collecting backpacks: it’s a fairly manual exercise to go to places already marked on the map and look for (and listen for) them nearby.

One thing we will say though is that, similar to finding landmarks, you can make your life a little easier by first selecting the backpack icon on your map, so that the specific location is marked a little. more clearly in the game when you get closer. .

From there, it’s just a matter of making sure you turn up the volume to help you hear when you’re nearby (it gets louder as you get closer) and making sure you look around all the awkward nooks and crannies to see where they are. stuck.

Don’t forget to fast travel to specific locations if you’re far away on the map, as it saves you quite a bit of time, although it’s most efficient when farming resources to focus on one district at a time. and plot a course through it from one icon to the next on your map.
