How to beat Krauser in Resident Evil 4 during Chapter 11

This fight during your initial encounter with Krauser in Chapter 11 is a small taste of what the long boss fight in Chapter 14 will be like.

First, grab the boot knife sticking out of the frame in front of you! You’re going to be parrying a lot, so it’s best to have a backup knife as they lose durability with every hit and parry.

For the rest of the fight, all you need to do is hit Krauser with your knife, parry his attacks, and melee him when he’s stunned. It’s easier said than done, especially on Professional difficulty, where you have to make a perfect parry for it to work.

If you’re having a hard time stopping, you might want to look at the knife symbol above your health bar. It flashes and the button message appears here when you should stop.

If Krauser grabs you and you are low on health, it is better to escape using your knife instead of pressing buttons, otherwise your health will decrease. However, if you have issues with knife durability and have a lot of health items, then you should mash with buttons.

When the fight is over, you won’t have to fight Krauser again until near the end of Chapter 14.

Here’s our Resident Evil 4 Krauser boss strategy during Chapter 14:

Krauser Fighting Strategy – Ruins

The lead-up to the Krauser fight could be more difficult than the main boss fight itself, as there are so many ways to get hurt.

For the first part, you need to crouch and protect yourself from Krauser’s laser sight behind the crumbling ruins and shoot Krauser after he has shot you, since that is when he is vulnerable. We used our bolt action rifle here, but any medium or long range weapon can do the job.

After taking enough damage, Krauser will jump up and engage in a knife fight. This is all about parrying between cuts with your own knife, so remember to keep an eye out for the knife symbol above your health bar if you’re having trouble timing your parries.

Krauser will periodically jump up and start shooting again, but then quickly jump up and return to the knife fight. Make sure you’re crouching behind some rubble or run behind a pillar when this happens, then try to shoot him before he jumps if you get the chance.

Krauser throws a flash grenade to end this part of the fight. When he does, he goes up to the ruins to turn a wheel and opens the door with the yellow symbol printed on it.

The next section is full of traps, so keep an eye on the ground for mines and bear traps, but you should also look above for cameras with a turret attached. To make matters even worse, Krauser will sometimes surprise attack you from behind and you’ll have to press a button to escape his reach.

Once you go up some stairs after the small area with a red grass and a box to smash, you need to run and duck behind the rubble to avoid Krauser’s laser sight, but don’t get too close to the rubble as it explodes when Krauser hits him.

Hit Krauser between his shots with a ranged weapon if you can and climb up the ruins. When you approach the door, ignore the box and run towards it, as Krauser will throw grenades. You can go back out and destroy the box once you’ve avoided the grenades.

Through the door ahead there is another knife and gun fight with Krauser. You should use the same stop-and-shoot strategy here, avoiding Krauser’s shots behind the columns, but watch out for the mines! If you can, move Krauser away from the mines so that when you evade his attacks, Leon doesn’t land on one of them.

If you can, try to move Krauser away from these red lines.

After Krauser takes enough damage, Leon will fall to the ground, meaning it’s almost time for the boss fight.

Our Resident Evil 4 walkthrough can help you through the village with guides on the Big and Little Cave Shrine puzzle solutions, the Church dial puzzle, and the Del Lago, El Gigante, and Mendez bosses. When you reach the castle, you’ll need to tackle the correct timing puzzles of the Treasure Sword, the Four Slotted Wall, the Dining Room Bell, and the Grandfather Clock, along with the Garrador Dungeon, Two Giants, and Ramon Salazar’s bosses. The island is next, and there are still puzzles with calibration puzzles, keycard locations, and a hidden wrench, along with final bosses Krauser and Sadler.

Krauser fighting strategy – boss arena

Instead of parrying a knife, you must parry blows from Krauser’s mutated arm during his boss fight in the arena. Only this time, between stops, we recommend using a shotgun to damage Krauser, or any high-damage weapon that you have plenty of ammo for.

When Krauser has his arm protecting his body, prepare for a parry, as if you shot him here you would only be wasting ammo. When Krauser is staggered by your parry or kick, that is the best time to pull out a weapon and damage him.

If you’re struggling, then the Broken Butterfly Magnum is the best weapon to hit Krauser while he’s unprotected. However, there isn’t much ammo available throughout the game, so you may want to save it for the last boss fight.

Once Krauser has taken enough damage, he will jump, preparing to avoid crashing into the sand. When you see him jump like this, he runs to the edge of the bottom or climbs a ladder to the top. On harder difficulties, you probably won’t have enough time to run to the ladder, so stay on the edge to stay safe.

Aside from this extra attack, Krauser is much more aggressive during this second phase of the arena boss fight, so be prepared to parry even more! Remember to shoot him between stops and it shouldn’t take long to finish the fight after the second phase has activated.

By defeating Krauser, you will obtain his combat knife, which you can use or sell. If this is your first time facing Krauser, you will also unlock the “You Used to Be a Good Guy” trophy or achievement.

Good luck facing Krauser!
