Hitman 3 continues Hitman 2’s feature of importing levels from previous entries in the series, allowing you to access all areas of the Hitman trilogy in one package.
This, of course, is provided that you have had previous games on that family of platforms, and although physical and digital purchases have different steps, the general process is the same.
Progression and unlocks from Hitman 2 can also be carried over to Hitman 3, which is a more recommended step before starting the game; Otherwise, any new progress you make will be replaced.
Update (January 20, 2022): With the second year of Hitman 3 approaching, developer IO has said that some details could be changing. If the following does not match, it is recommended that you check the official support pages to get what you need.

How to import Hitman levels to Hitman 3
As with Hitman 2, it’s possible to import levels from previous entries into Hitman 3, so you can access all levels from the original Hitman, Hitman 2, and Hitman 3 in a single game, even across console generations.
Developer IO makes this possible by making these respective level sets available as DLC, with each game or expansion having an “Access Pass.” If you have purchased a previous Hitman game or DLC, you will have access to the respective Access Pass for that game. If not, say if you are a newcomer to the Hitman series with this third installment, you can buy them from the store.
The previous levels of Hitman are available as three access packs for Hitman 1, Hitman 2, and Hitman 2 Gold (also known as the Hitman 2 expansion).
These are the basics of how it works; Of course, between digital and physical versions, as well as various editions over the years, the process of how to import everything can get a little complicated. The main aspects to take into account are:
- If you’re importing levels from the original Hitman, either digitally or on disc, make sure you’ve imported them into Hitman 2 by first unlocking the ‘Legacy Edition’ in that game. This will then unlock the Legacy Edition in the store for that platform in Hitman 3 as well. (The official website has more information on this exact process.)
- If you only owned the main Legacy Edition of Hitman 1 (i.e. the original season) and not the GOTY Legacy Edition (which added Patient Zero and some additional costumes), you will automatically upgrade to that latest GOTY edition in Hitman 3.
- If you are importing Hitman 2 levels digitally, the Access Pass will be available in Hitman 3 immediately.
- If you’re importing Hitman 2 levels onto a disc, IO says you must redeem the Access Pass within Hitman 2 before it becomes available in Hitman 3*. Meanwhile, Xbox owners may also need to have a digital version of Hitman 3 or the free Hitman 2 starter pack before they can redeem it in the Hitman 2 store.
- Hitman 2 Gold Edition and the Hitman 2 expansion will work the same, again depending on your physical or digital purchase.
*That said, on PlayStation I didn’t have to do this step as Hitman 3 knew I already owned the game. Meanwhile, Ian Higton, from our own video team, said he had the disc in the drive and visited Hitman. 3in the in-game store for the Hitman 2 Access Pass to appear.
When attempting to play any level of Hitman 1 or 2, you will first be prompted to redeem or purchase the respective pack.
- Finally, importing levels and note purchases can only be done for that console family (PlayStation to PlayStation, Xbox to Xbox, PC to PC) and will work across all console generations (i.e. PS4 to PS5, from Xbox One to Xbox Series). The exception at launch is PC and the Epic Games Store, although there is a promise that purchases from different PC stores will be fulfilled over time. Until then, all Hitman 3 purchases within the first 10 days on the Epic Games Store will have access to the original Hitman 1 Legacy Edition for free.
For example, this is what I did to unlock everything in Hitman 3 on PlayStation. I had the original season of Hitman and had previously installed Hitman 2 to get that Legacy Edition at that game’s launch, unlocking it in Hitman 3. As mentioned above, although I have Hitman 2 on disc, I apparently didn’t have to go. in the in-game store within that game to unlock the Access Pass; it just appeared on PSN as available. Finally, my Hitman 2 DLC was purchased digitally, so no steps were necessary there.
All three access passes were available on PSN, which is useful if the game servers are having problems or are down.
Once all this was done, you could start Hitman 3 and have access to all the previous levels.
How to transfer your progression from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3
While transferring progression seems less urgent than sorting out your levels and purchases from previous games, it’s arguably more important, as it means you continue the unlocks and experience gained in Hitman 2, including levels from the original Hitman played in that sequel. .
Doing this after you’ve started playing Hitman 3 will replace any progress you’ve made, so it’s recommended to do it before you start. It’s also something you can prepare for before playing, which is useful if you’re waiting for the download to finish.
Feel free to access the ‘transferred website’ on any device with a web browser.
Items transferred include:
- Hitman 2 Profile Rating
- Location Mastery XP and unlocks any level played in Hitman 2
- Challenges completed and level unlocks played in Hitman 2.
- All Hitman 2 Elusive Target Outfits and Rewards
Things that will not transfer include:
- Save files
- Hitman 1 Game of the Year Escalation Rewards
- Access to the ICA Electrocution Telephone item (which is not available in Hitman 3)
The progression transfer website had problems at launch and now seems to be working much better.
To transfer your progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3, you need to visit this official website, log in to your IO account, and follow the instructions. Although the game will ask you to do this the first time you play Hitman 3 and open the in-game website, feel free to do this on another device, such as a phone or computer, if you prefer.
(Note: In some cases, the transfer site will list some locations without a domain. IO says this is just a visual error; as long as the location is listed, the actual domain level should carry over to Hitman 3.)
Please note that progress only transfers within that platform family (PlayStation to PlayStation, Xbox to Xbox, PC to PC) and because of this, you cannot transfer any progress to the Switch version (which is technically the first on that platform).
Additionally, you should know that while progress from the original Hitman will not carry over, everything played in Hitman 2, including Legacy Hitman 1 levels played in the sequel, will carry over as it is part of that Hitman 2 profile. .
Finally, you should know that you can only do this once. In practice, this means that if you continue playing Hitman 2, any new progress made in that game will not be able to continue. And, to reiterate, it’s important to do all of this before playing Hitman 3, as the unlocks will be overwritten with the ones you made in Hitman 2.
There’s a lot to take in and possibly do before you can play Hitman 3 with everything you have and unlocked, so the sooner you do it, the quicker you can get started with the new game, which we describe as “a satisfying end to a beautiful stealth trilogy” in our Hitman 3 review.
