Happy National Donut Day 2023: National Donut (or Donuts) Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June every year. The day marks the significance of the happy meal during the First World War. And this year it falls on June 2.
The celebration of the favorite treat of Barack Obama, Homer Simpson and the police dates back to the Salvation Army’s participation in World War I. Volunteers on the war front chose donuts as the simplest food. It is said that these volunteers even use war helmets as utensils to fry seven donuts at once. These brave volunteers were later known as “doughnut lassies.”
Later, in 1938, National Donut Day was established to honor members of the Salvation Army, who risked their lives to help soldiers during World War I.
