Helicopters in GTA Vice City are one of the best ways to explore the city.
The game has a wide range of vehicles that you can steal, drive and possibly crash. From tiny motorcycles to roaring sports cars and even military tanks, the fun never stops as you get creative to cause endless chaos on your way through Vice City.
But it is the helicopter that is the most useful and impressive, as it allows you to fully explore without worrying about traffic jams or bodies of water.

GTA Vice City Helicopter Locations: Where can you find helicopters in GTA Vice City?
There are 12 possible variants of helicopters that you can pilot in GTA Vice City. To unlock them and have them appear on the map, including the previously empty Eastern Helicopter locations in Ocean Beach, Vice Point, and Prawn Island, you must first advance the story and open all of Vice City’s bridges by completing story mission 13, ‘Phnom’. Penh ’86’.
Of course, you can get to the other island early if you want to fully explore the Vice City map and pilot a helicopter early. Additionally, the PS2 original’s cheats to spawn a helicopter don’t work in later PC or console re-releases, so you’ll have to find them yourself.

GTA Vice City Helicopter flight controls in original releases
When boarding a Helicopter, a few seconds will pass with the vehicle moving. Once ready, the main controls of the Helicopter vehicles are as follows:
- Pressing Up/W on PC, or B on an Xbox controller, will cause the helicopter to ascend.
- Pressing Down/S/, or X on an Xbox controller, will cause the helicopter to descend. Hold it down when landing so the vehicle doesn’t bounce before exiting.
- Pressing Num 9/Num 6 on PC or the left analog stick (Xbox controller) will make the helicopter’s nose go up or down.
- Pressing A/D on PC or the left analog stick (Xbox controller) will make it turn left or right.
- Pressing Num 2/E on PC or RB on an Xbox controller will spin the helicopter clockwise.
- Pressing Num 1/Q on PC or LB on an Xbox controller will spin the helicopter counterclockwise.
Meanwhile, the helicopter’s blades can be used as a lethal weapon should you need them, and if you’re piloting a helicopter carrying a bomb, you just need to get close to it and it will grab it. To release the bomb press Num 0 or the left mouse button.

As a general tip, the Helicopter blades can be used as a lethal weapon if you need them, and if you are piloting a Helicopter that is carrying a bomb, you only need to get close to it and it will grab it and press Num 0. to launch the bomb.
Likewise, if the helicopter in question has primary or secondary weapons, you can press E or Q respectively.
Depending on the locations, you will find helicopters available in the same locations as in the original games, with the ones found in Vice City Beach only accessible after unlocking Vice City Mainland.
