While Arcanine, the evolution of Growlithe, used to be a top-tier Fire-type raid attacker, it has long since fallen out of favor in Pokémon Go. That being said, the opportunity to catch the best pup is always appreciated; just remember when Hisuian Growlithe almost broke the internet with how adorable he was…

Growlithe IV stats 100% perfect in Pokémon Go

This week’s Featured Hour is the perfect opportunity to catch a Growlithe with perfect IV stats.

“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max build, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your 4* Pokédex, Raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.

Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Growlithe based on CP alone.

Arcanine, the evolution of Growlithe, is an excellent Fire-type option for newcomers, despite being one of the first Pokémon released, but it is quickly overtaken by the actual Legendary Pokémon (even though Arcanine is he Legendary Pokémon, it is not to legendary Pokémon).

The CP values that correspond to perfect values of 15/15/15 are as follows:

Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 1066 CP
Level 35 (maximum CP boosted by weather) – 1154 CP

The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above level 30, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Halloween event has returned, bringing with it Greavard and Houndstone. Party Play, Pokémon Go’s multiplayer feature, is here, along with the Welcome Party quest. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Is Arcanine good at PvP?

Arcanine.

Unfortunately no, Arcanine hasn’t been a serious contender in Go Battle League for several years, given that it leans towards attack (famously the opposite of what you want in PvP) and that there are so many better Fire-type options in the game. Nowadays, running Arcanine is just a responsibility.

If you feel like trying out Arcanine, we recommend Snarl as a fast move and Wild Charge and Psychic Fangs as charged moves.

There’s no point in going over the matchups here; It’s that disappointing. If you’re desperate to run a mono-Fire type (although you really shouldn’t be), Kantonian Ninetails will get the job done, but going for a dual-type like Charizard or Talonflame will almost always be better.

Is there a shiny Growlithe in Pokémon Go?

This form debuted in September 2018 when the field research tasks for that month changed. By using 50 Growlithe Candy, you can turn a shiny Growlithe into a shiny Arcanine, adding another entry to your shiny Pokédex.

Remember: Focus Hour only increases the number of Growlithe that appear in the wild, not the shine rate of this Pokémon. This means that, unlike a Community Day, Growlithe’s brilliant rates will not change during an Open Hour.

What does the shiny Growlithe look like?

As you can see in the images below, the shiny Growlithe has a yellow color, which is quite similar to the orange fur of the traditional Growlithe. Shiny Shadow Growlithe also looks pretty monstrous!

Other tips for this hour of attention

Aside from the chance to catch a shiny Growlithe, there are other reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight:

This week’s bonus is the double Stardust capture, making it the perfect time to collect some Stardust. You can further increase the amount you receive by using a Star Piece for 30 minutes.
If you’re new to Pokémon Go, this is the perfect opportunity to collect enough Growlithe Candies so you can add Arcanine to your Pokédex.
Since Growlithe is a Fire-type Pokémon, catching it will add progress to your Fire-type catch bonus medal.
