Referring a friend in Fortnite allows you to invite a friend new to the game and earn multiple rewards in the process.
Working similarly to the restart a friend program, which was reintroduced in early 2021, this program is aimed at new players who want to start playing or just play for a short period of time so far.
This page will explain how to refer a friend in Fortnite and how to unlock the Rainbow Racer skin by completing a series of tasks beforehand.

How to refer a friend in Fortnite explained
Refer a friend is a fairly simple program in practice, which allows you to become the referrer of a new Fortnite player in exchange for rewards. Fortunately, both the referrer and the referee can unlock such rewards, so it’s a promising incentive.
To start the program, you, as a referrer, must launch the game on any platform and then log in to the refer-a-friend website. Once there, select the person you want to refer from your friends list (using your Epic Games account).
It’s worth noting that your friend must have played less than 120 minutes of a main Fortnite Battle Royale mode (this includes Solo, Duos, Trios, or Squads) in the last 30 days (this includes new players). As such, the referrer must be the one who sends the invitation; otherwise it won’t work. It may seem obvious, but we double-checked just in case!
An easier way to send an invitation is that once you have logged into the site and followed the steps, the site will give you the option to simply share a useful link to the invitation.
Additionally, you can have up to five referees from now until the end of the program. Of course, each reward can only be earned once, but that means you can continue helping other people get theirs too.
That being said, there are limitations in terms of time periods to complete these tasks, which we will explain below.
Fortnite Refer a Friend Registration End Date: When does Refer a Friend End?
The refer-a-friend program in Fortnite is divided into two periods, so it’s best to start as soon as possible.
For the refer-a-friend registration period, the dates are as follows:
- Monday, October 25 (9am UK, 10am CEST, 4am EDT, 1am PDT)
- Sunday, November 14 (4:59 am UK, 5:59 am CEST, 11:59 pm EDT, 9 pm PDT)
After you have registered one or more friends as a referee, both of you will be able to earn the rewards between the following dates:
- Monday, October 25 (9am UK, 10am CEST, 4am EDT, 1am PDT)
- Monday, January 10 (4:59 am UK, 5:59 am CEST, 11:59 pm EDT, 9 pm PDT)

There are a total of five rewards to unlock with the Fortnite Refer a Friend program. For each one, you and your referee will have to play together and complete a certain task.

It’s worth noting that your progress with these tasks is displayed on the refer-a-friend website rather than in an in-game tab. Also, as mentioned in the disclaimer, rewards will be awarded directly to your Epic account within an hour after completing the task. So don’t worry if you don’t see it right away.
As for the Rainbow Racer skin requirement, gaining at least 60 levels can be a time-consuming task. Fortunately, the extended period until January 10 should help. However, when in doubt, focus on the Fortnite challenges to get the most out of every Battle Royale session!
