What’s new on the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 map?

At the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, a completely new area was added to the southeastern part of the map. These new locations include Steamy Springs, which has geysers and sakura trees, as well as Mega City, which is where you’ll find the new grind rails.

How to Reveal Named Locations and Landmarks on the Fortnite Map

When loading a new season of Fortnite, only new areas will appear grayed out (unless there has been a full map update, which is rare). You will need to head to the gray areas to fully unlock them. Generally, and as is especially true this season, these grayed-out locations are unlocked by visiting a specific landmark in each one. Try to look for notable points of interest around you. They are usually larger buildings or structures.

You will receive a small amount of XP when you visit a named location or landmark for the first time. To see the map in all its true glory, you’ll need to visit each of the named locations and major landmarks, either on foot or after landing from the Battle Bus.

Fortnite map with location names listed

At the start of each Fortnite season, we can usually expect a handful of new locations to be visited. Sometimes named locations are added mid-season as well. Four new named locations were added to the map in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2:

  • steaming springs
  • knotty nets
  • Megacity
  • Kenjutsu crossover

Additionally, the following locations return from Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1:

  • breakwater bay
  • lonely laboratories
  • Brutal Bastion
  • Yunque Square
  • The Citadel
  • slappy shores
  • Frenzy Farms
  • Shattered slabs

Grinding rails are a new addition this season. And it can be found in the new Mega City location.

Fortnite Landmarks Explained

Landmarks in Fortnite are smaller locations found throughout the map. They usually contain smaller points of interest to explore, usually focused on specific objects such as shipwrecks or castle towers. Naturally, you’ll find landmarks simply by exploring the map, and just like with named locations, you’ll earn some XP by finding them.

Previous Fortnite Chapter 4 Maps

So far, we’ve had two main maps as part of Fortnite Chapter 4. In general, they have been much more open and contain small villages and towns with a medieval atmosphere. There is a snow biome to the north, as well as a region of green farmland to the south. So far, it is the southeast region that has seen the most changes.
