How to catch Kecleon in Pokémon Go

Kecleon can now be caught in Pokémon Go and can only be found through a unique method, which is in line with its inspiration: the chameleon.

Experienced Pokémon Go players have long anticipated the arrival of Kecleon because, with the release of this little lizard, you can now finally complete the Hoenn Pokédex. This is especially notable since the last time a Gen 3 Pokémon was released was during 2019!

Below you will learn how to catch Kecleon in Pokémon Go.

How to get Kecleon in Pokémon Go

To catch Kecleon in Pokémon Go, you need to click on each PokéStop you come across until you find one that has a nearly invisible Kecleon hanging from it. I say almost invisible, because you will be able to see the outline of Kecleon’s body and the red stripe that runs along his belly.

Once you have found a Kecleon, you must tap Kecleon until it jumps out of the PokéStop. Exit the PokéStop after this happens and Kecleon will appear on the Pokémon Go map, allowing you to catch it!

Since Kecleon will appear near the PokéStop where you found it, we recommend waiting at said PokéStop to make sure you don’t miss your chance to catch it or you will have to look for another one.

Remember: Kecleon, as of this writing, is quite rare, so you may have to visit a lot of PokéStops until you find one.

It is possible to see Kecleon at a PokéStop outside of your current radius, meaning you can see a Kecleon hiding at a PokéStop that you can’t tap. This was originally seen as a bug, but was added as a feature according to the official Pokémon Go Help Center.

It is important to note that Kecleon cannot appear in any PokéStop currently inhabited by a Team Go Rocket Grunt. Instead, you must wait for that encounter with Grunt to expire to have a chance for Kecleon to appear at that PokéStop.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

We also recommend not having a Rocket Radar or Super Rocket Radar equipped while searching for a Kecleon, as this reduces the number of PokéStops that Kecleon can appear at. Players on The Silph Road subreddit have even noted that having one of these radars equipped can prevent you from seeing a currently available Kecleon.

To unequip a Rocket Radar or Super Rocket Radar, search for it in your Item Storage or select it on the map screen, then press the “Unequip” button.

Good luck on your Kecleon hunting adventures!
