FM21 Wonderkids explained: what are Wonderkids and how to find them?
Now, you’re probably thinking: names that “could” end up being the best players? What does this mean? Well, Football Manager 2021, like previous entries, shows you how good each player is in the game thanks to attribute ratings. These cover technical, mental and physical skills, such as how good a player is at passing the ball or whether he shows leadership on the team.
However, there is also a hidden ranking system in the game’s database. At first, each player is assigned a “current ability” rating, which is a score out of 200. But, more importantly, there is also a “potential ability” rating. If a player receives the right equipment and staff support, streak of results and other variables, he could achieve a much higher rating than the one assigned to him at the beginning of the season.
Once again, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the highest-rated players in the game. However, Kylian Mbappé’s potential score of 196 matches Ronaldo’s, so it might be worth trying to snatch him up early on (provided you have endless resources, of course). But there are some gems that could end up being better buys, like Ajax’s Pipi and Naci Unuvar, particularly since their ratings aren’t high at the start of the season. It seems that the first thing he will do is ask the board for a larger transfer budget.
