Elf Concert 2023 Overview
“Genie” is a musical based on the film of the same name, with music by Matthew Sklar and Chad Begreen. The stage adaptation is based on the 2003 film by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan. The musical ran successfully on Broadway in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 Christmas seasons and in the West End in 2015-16. Plus, it often travels extensively during the holidays.
The story revolves around Buddy Hobbs, a young orphan who accidentally gets into Santa’s gift bag and is magically teleported to the North Pole. After discovering the baby, Santa and his team of elves decided to raise him as one of their own. Over time, Buddy learned that he was actually a human being, and with the encouragement of Santa Claus, he embarked on a journey to New York City to find his father, Walter Hobbs.
However, Buddy faces a harsh reality: Walter is on Santa’s naughty list, and his son Michael doesn’t even believe in Santa Claus. Undeterred, Buddy is determined to reconnect with his biological family and help bustling New York City rediscover the true nature of Christmas.
