Destiny 2 Presage quest walkthrough: How to get Dead Man’s Tale in the The Voice on the Other Side mission

Destiny 2 Omen is a quest introduced in February 2021 for Season of the Chosen season pass holders.

The quest is part of The Voice on the Other Side, a quest that culminates with Dead Man’s Tale, a new exotic scout rifle, as a reward.

This mission is no different than Outbreak Perfected’s Harbinger, Whisper of the Worm, and Zero Hour, offering a challenging mission with several combat encounters and difficult puzzles.

This page explains how to start The Voice on the Other Side and Presage, since the first step is not obvious, as well as what to look for during the mission itself.

How to get Dead Man’s Tale in Destiny 2 in brief

Here’s a quick rundown of the steps needed to get Dead Man’s Tale:

  1. Play arms dealer strike and find the intercepted distress signal in the new area.
  2. Visit Zavala in the Tower
  3. Play the Presage mission in Tangled Shore
  4. Visit Zavala in the Tower once again

There are far fewer steps than most exotic quests, including those that stack into a single quest. That said, getting the quest going is difficult unless you know exactly where to look, while the quest itself will take some time to complete.

How to start the Presage quest and The Voice on the Other Side quest in Destiny 2

To start Presage, you need to enter The Arms Dealer’s strike. This attack dates back to the base game, so it’s probably familiar to you, but if you forget, you should go to the EDZ.

It doesn’t matter if you choose it as Nightfall or from the director’s screen in the EDZ, as long as you start from the beginning of the mission.

When you start, you will have to find a new route that has opened up. Usually when you start, you should turn the corner to the left. Instead, in this corner, there is a door ahead, newly opened for this exotic quest.

It’s easy to miss if you’re on autopilot after executing the attack so many times over the years, but know that it’s right at the beginning, just beyond the first group of enemies.

From there, go past the turrets and you’ll be outside. There are two ‘heliports’ ahead.

Take out the enemies here (some of which have names related to Caiatl, so you know you’re on the right path) and go to the right helipad.

An on-screen marker will take you to a container and, inside, to an item you must collect: the intercepted distress signal.

Now visit Zavala in the Tower. He will explain what the intercepted distress signal means and unlock a new quest, Presage, in Tangled Shore.

You will then find the mission on the director’s screen in the upper right corner. Jump when you’re ready.

How the Presage mission works in Destiny 2

The Presage mission is similar to Season of the Hunt’s Harbinger, in that it is an exotic mission with puzzle solving, platforming, and various combat encounters, and unlike previous missions such as Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected’s Zero Hour, it does not It is timed, allowing you to take your time exploring.

Although it has a power level recommendation of 1230, it will be a solo challenge, so group up if possible. We ran it in a Fireteam of two and aside from a few boss kills, it seemed doable and took around 90 minutes to complete.

The Presage mission has you explore an abandoned ship. Core mechanics include shooting vents to find new routes, shooting fuses and flipping switches to open panels and doors, and shooting blue spore structures to receive an Egregore Link buff to pass through walls that “burn” you.

There is a Presage tutorial below, but some tips to help you are:

  • If you are in a room or vent that apparently has no exit, look up; There will likely be a ledge or door leading you forward.
  • With the spore Egregore Link upgrade, all Guardians must be very close when shot. If it is green, you must wait until it turns blue again before you can shoot again and receive the buff.
  • Several switches that you must activate to solve the puzzles are in plain sight: look carefully at the walls around you if there is no way to advance.
  • Keep a mental note of all the closed doors you encounter. If you flip a switch and the path forward isn’t clear, chances are you’ve opened one of those doors. Meanwhile, some fuses open something on a timer, so if nothing appears to have happened, shoot again and keep searching.
  • The first time, it should take between 90 minutes and two hours, depending on how much you know beforehand. Know that there are no checkpoints, so make sure you have enough time to play through the entire game if you want to see it through to the end.

Omen Walkthrough for Destiny 2

Since the path through the ship is long, sometimes maze-like but linear enough to find your way if you explore enough, we don’t go into a full step-by-step walkthrough in text (although the video below shows a playback of Start to Finish). Instead, we highlight the most important moments where you might get stuck.

A full replay (without audio) of the Presage mission in Destiny 2.

First, we need to find a way to enter the ship. Use the platforms outside to do this: turn left from where you started, jump onto the pipes, and move forward.

From there, walk through the small hallways; If you get stuck, remember to look up.

Shortly after using the Egregore Link perk to go through the wall for the first time, there is a section with electrified walls with doors in the middle that you must go through. You have to activate three switches as you go: one near where you go down, one in the second to last room, and one at the end.

From there, return to the same room as the second switch and drop under the ledge as soon as you enter. On the wall is a panel that has opened and, facing it, there is a fuse that you can shoot to open a door under the third switch.

To escape the room that looks like a trash compactor, shoot the floor vents to reveal the fuses (you can see them without shooting by looking from above; jumping across the room and looking down can be helpful). Find all three and the walls will stop moving, allowing you to find a vent to the path below.

A combat section follows that ends in a hangar. To progress, you must use the platforms outside in space.

The next series of puzzles is quite complicated, but you should know that some switches are visible and that the first fuse will deactivate the electric field above on a timer. After finding the perk to exit this room, there is another puzzle room and then a red-tinted ventilation shaft. Below is a full walkthrough video of this entire section, essentially between the combat encounter in the hangar and the brief fight against the two Abominations:

How to solve all Presage puzzles between the two combat encounters.

After facing two Abominations, there is a long room where you must jump across ledges while dealing with enemies. To get through the burning wall at the end, activate the switch just around the corner that reveals a tower behind you, then backtrack to a door with a burning wall that has opened halfway across the room.

This has its own burning wall. To progress, you must return to the start of this area to get the buff, go to this room to recharge it, and then travel to the end.

After this there is a boss fight against the Communion Place. After dealing enough damage and eliminating enemies, there are three coolants to activate at a higher level: two on blue screens at each end and one in a burning room next to it.

Go down to the lower level behind any of the end screens that activated the coolants and damage the boss until a third of its health is gone.

It’s worth saving Supers here until the enemies appear, as things can get hectic, and remember you can return to the upper level if you need a break.

Try to stay close to this upper level when a third of your health is almost reached, as this lower level will start to heat up when you reach it. Now repeat this step (activating the coolants above and damaging the boss’s health by a third) until you are done.

Investigate the scene in the final room to finish the mission, but be sure to wait until the actual message appears on the screen before leaving (it took us about 20 seconds after the dialogue appeared), which will give you the last mission step. to return to Zavala in the Tower.

Doing so completes the mission. Congratulations: The Dead Man’s Tale of the Exotic Scout Rifle is yours.

Destiny 2 Presage, Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst, and Presage Master secrets explained

There are incentives to replay the Presage mission in subsequent restarts to earn more rewards and find new secrets.

Like Hawkmoon, each subsequent completion will give you a new run of Dead Man’s Tale, giving you new advantages for different play styles. The quest is also a source of Pinnacle rewards, which is useful if you need something to get you to the maximum level cap.

For Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst, this is available by visiting Zavala after completing Presage once, which gives you another quest called At Your Fingertips, which rewards you with the Catalyst upon completion.

The objective of the mission itself is simple: complete Omen on Master difficulty. Not only does it increase the difficulty and add modifiers, but it reintroduces the timer from the old exotic missions.

Go to the highest level possible, with a full team, and memorize the route and puzzle solutions, and you should have a good chance of completing the mission within the 25-minute goal.

Beyond that, you can also find collectibles, such as captain’s journals and contraband compartments.
