Destiny 2 Bad Juju quest steps: How the Tribute Hall and Boon of Opulence works

Destiny 2’s Bad Juju is an exotic quest available during the Season of Opulence in the game’s second year.

Released on July 9 alongside 2019’s Moments of Triumph, Bad Juju is a returning exotic pulse rifle from the original Destiny, which was then subject to its own exotic quest.

Like other Year 2 exotics, Bad Juju has no time limit and can be acquired as soon as it is released, as long as you unlock enough tributes in the Tribute Hall.

In this page:

How to get Bad Juju in Destiny 2 in brief

Here’s a quick rundown of the steps needed to get Bad Juju:

  • Visit Werner’s barge 99-40 on Nessus and open the chest next to it.
  • Enter the Hall of Tributes, accessed from the Director on Nessus
  • Talk to the Face of Calus and complete one of the vendor’s daily rewards.
  • Turn in the Boon of Opulance reward to unlock the Hall of Tributes
  • Unlock 18 statues in the Hall of Tributes.
  • Complete the mission The Other Side.
  • Pick up Bad Juju from the Tribute Hall.

Once the above is done, Bad Juju is yours.

Getting Bad Juju from Destiny 2 step by step: where to find the Bad Juju quest location and how to unlock the Hall of Tributes

Note: Until July 30, it is possible to use an exploit that allows you to shortcut much of the work of this mission to get this and the Catalyst easily, but it only works up to a certain point in the mission. Assuming you haven’t started yet, you can read all the details on reddit, thanks to thebunge. Bungie will patch it at the end of the month, showing the correct tribute total, as well as access to the catalyst and the ‘X Marks the Spot’ emote. Meanwhile, Bad Juju himself? If you unlock it this way, you can keep it.

Getting Bad Juju is one of the easiest Destiny 2 exotic quests, and you can do it solo if you prefer.

First, head to Werner’s barge 99-40 on Nessus (the fastest travel point is from Watcher’s Grave to the north) and open the chest next to it. As with other barge chests, you need 5000 Glimmer to do so.

You will then receive the Emperor’s Invitation quest step, which asks you to enter the Hall of Tribute and speak to the Face of Calus.

You will find the Director’s Tribute Room on Nessus:

Inside, investigate the statue to unlock a new vendor: Visage of Calus. Complete a daily bounty to then receive your first Opulence buff, which opens the Hall of Tributes.

Destiny 2 Tribute Hall explained and how Boon of Opulence works

To obtain Bad Juju, you must unlock a certain number of statues inside the Hall of Tributes.

There are several ways to do this. First, there is the blessing of opulence. Each daily reward completed from the Face of Calus grants you this, and each one received increases the discount you will receive when purchasing tributes from the vendor for the Hall of Tributes by 1%, up to a total of 80%.

There are 30 Tributes in total to purchase, and each one costs planetary materials and Glimmer. This will cost a lot at first, but you will continue to get discounts from daily rewards and it will get cheaper over time. If you need these resources, visit Spider on Tangled Shore, who has many available to trade for other resources.

There are also other ways to unlock Tributes: there is a Tribute Room part on the Triumph page, each of which is worth one Tribute. They are unlocked by completing various activities with the Leviathan gear equipped. Between that and a few you unlock by doing the next step of the quest, there are a total of 50 Tribute Hall statues to unlock.

To get Bad Juju, you must unlock 18 tributes as part of the Golden Hero quest step. These have multiple stages, each of which unlocks a War Beast that is added to the center of the Hall of Tributes. At statue number 18 you will get the final War Beast and then you can complete the Golden Hero step.

Now, visit the Face of Calus to unlock the Other Side step, a quest that begins in the Hall of Tribute and allows you to explore the Ascendant Realm.

With a power level requirement of 350, it shouldn’t give you much trouble, even if you’re alone. Here’s Aydarkzero with a YouTube video of the mission:

Once this is done, investigate the case where you started the quest to receive Bad Juju.

How to get the Bad Juju catalyst in Destiny 2 and what else you can do in the Tribute Hall

The Tribute Hall is still open after you collect Bad Juju, and you’ll probably have many more Tributes to unlock. To obtain the Bad Juju catalyst, you must obtain a total of 45 wins in the Hall of Tributes. (Thanks to CapnHalfy on reddit for explaining.)

Not familiar with how Bad Juju works? Special perks cause kills to automatically reload your weapon, increase damage, and increase your Super Meter faster, stacking up to five times. Having the Catalyst keeps this battery longer.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the various Tributes you unlock in the Tribute Hall allow you to spawn different types of enemies, acting as a shooting range to test out weapons and skills. Have fun!
