Death Stranding’s career mode is a new addition to the Director’s Cut version of the game.
This mode will be unlocked once you’ve built a race track, allowing you to take part in a series of time trials, some of which will pit you against high scores from other players.
Doing this will also allow you to unlock the Roadster, a new vehicle that, while impractical on the rocks and mountains that make up most of the game’s landscape, is a fast and stylish vehicle if you can find flat terrain to drive it on.

How to Unlock Career Mode and Race Track in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
The racetrack is a new structure in the Director’s Cut version of the game, located at the southern end of the central region, south of Timefall Farm, in the Racetrack Terminal.
First, you must complete Order No.35: Prototype Delivery: Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City. After that, you should receive an email from Thomas Southerland titled “Come roar down the trail of your dreams.”
When you’re ready, you need to head to the Timefall Farm area and then head south to Racetrack Terminal.
To build the Racetrack terminal, you need to contribute some additional resources. These are the following:
- 130 chiral crystals
- 450 metals
- 400 Ceramic
If you don’t have them in your possession, remember that you can claim materials from a delivery terminal, such as at Timefall Farm, in order to donate them.
Once this is done, the race track is built and you can participate in the races!
How Death Stranding’s career mode works
The races are simple time trials on a variety of track layouts using different vehicles. This includes a handful of pre-set race types, as well as ranked races that pit you against other players’ times.
You are allowed to accelerate, which will end once you hit the side of the track (however, lightly skimming it will maintain your speed). The most important thing to know is that you can hand brake with the Circle button, which will allow you to take tighter turns at higher speeds.
Ultimately, the career mode is a pretty simple but fun diversion, and with Ranked mode, a way to get extra rewards from time to time when new racing events appear.

How to unlock the Roadster in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
The racing mode is joined by a new type of vehicle, the Roadster. This is a fast and stylish vehicle that works best on flat surfaces, such as roads, so try not to use it too much when climbing rough terrain.
To craft the Roadster anywhere in the game, you must participate in a race using the Roadster on the race track. We unlock this after completing a qualifying race with the Roadster, but we imagine standard time trials will count as well.
