Cyberpunk 2077 System Malfunction message and how to remove the error message explained

The Cyberpunk 2077 System Malfunction message regularly appears on the screen as soon as you start Act 1.

This is where Cyberpunk 2077 opens up after the lifepath-specific prologue, allowing you to choose your missions for the first time or, if you prefer, start wandering around Night City, albeit in a locked state.

As you explore, you will be periodically interrupted by a System Malfunction message. While it doesn’t prevent you from controlling V or completing any activities, it’s an annoyance that you’ll want to eliminate as soon as possible.

This page explains how to remove the System Malfunction message in Cyberpunk 2077, which fortunately is easier than you think.

How to remove the System Malfunction message in Cyberpunk 2077

At the beginning of Act 1, where you will be able to roam Night City more freely following the linear prologue, you will be periodically interrupted by a System Malfunction message at the top of the screen.

Fortunately, taking him out is easy: you need to start the next main story mission, The Ripperdoc. This will take you to a local implant specialist, Viktor, to take a look at it and give you some updates, and delete the message while he’s at it.

Fortunately, this is pretty short and you’ll get there in no time. Go to the quest log and select it from the list. From there, follow the waypoints (head to the apartments elevator and go down to the ground floor) and meet Jackie right outside.

This will take you to The Ripperdoc, which is just a short distance away. Once this is done, you will begin another main mission in which you will meet Dexter DeShawn. The most important thing is that the message will also disappear.

So while the temptation is to start exploring Night City as soon as you can, it’s worth completing the first story mission, just to get a couple of useful upgrades and clear that message.

From there, go ahead and do what you want without obstacles. However, as you’ll soon discover, Watson’s local area is closed, and eliminating it is the next main objective if you want to see everything Night City has to offer.
