Battlefield 1 Elite Classes – How to get them, Flame Trooper, Sentry and Tank Hunter loadouts

Battlefield 1’s Elite classes are a brand new addition to the series this year, with the Flame Trooper, Sentry, and Tank Hunter pickups closely mimicking what we saw with the Jedi and Hero units in DICE’s other shooter, Star Wars Battlefront.

A form of heavy, specially equipped super soldier, Elite classes are potentially winning when implemented correctly, but can be completely ineffective when played by someone without much experience or direction. With that in mind, we’ll explain everything you need to know about each class, including full details of their loadouts, weapons, playstyles, and counters below.

Battlefield 1 Elite Classes and How to Get Them

Elite classes differ from the standard Assault, Medic, Support, Scout and Pilot, Tank and Cavalry classes in several ways. Here’s everything you need to know about how they generally work:

  • Elite units are obtained through pickup trucks, which appear periodically on the map and appear as a special weapon inside a long rectangular wooden box.
  • Elite class pickups will always spawn in a fixed location, for example the Sentry pickup in the bunker below capture point B on Mount Grappa.
  • The vans will reappear five minutes after the death of the last user in the class.
  • Elite class pickups are usually available from the start of the game, so running to their location once you know it can almost guarantee you access it at least once per game.

With those details out of the way, let’s start analyzing each class and their relevant playstyles and counterattacks.

Flame Trooper Elite class equipment, strengths and weaknesses

  • Primary Weapon: Wex
  • Weapon Function: Flamethrower
  • Strengths: Close to medium range against infantry; infinite ammo; regenerative health; heavily armored; permanently equipped with a gas mask; capable of destroying landscapes and soldiers.
  • Weaknesses: No means to damage vehicles; restricted vision from gas mask; no option for long range combat; slow movement.

Flame Trooper Elite class playstyle and counters

  • Official Description: Clad in fire-resistant gear, a gas mask and carrying a powerful flamethrower, the Flame Trooper brings chaos with him. Stay away if you can, but if you find yourself face to face with the Flame Trooper, you better muster up your courage, fix your bayonet, and charge into battle before he notices you. One wrong move and you’ll likely spend your final moments seeing red.
  • Play Style: The obvious point here is to get up close and personal. Avoid open areas and opt for covered routes such as trenches and buildings. Find choke points and built-up areas like the housing area in the Sinai Desert, and use the network of houses to get in and out of combat, healing as you do. Support him with a squad of doctors to really increase his potential.
  • Counterattacks: Explosives like standard grenades are very effective, as are bayonet charges which will take away a large chunk of health. Attack from multiple angles and of course keep your distance. The intense focus of vehicles like the Light Tank, Heavy Tank, and Landship can also simplify the job of an unsupported Flame Trooper.

Sentry Elite class equipment, strengths and weaknesses

  • Main weapon: MG 15/08
  • Weapon Function: Heavy Machine Gun
  • Strengths: Close combat, medium and some long range; huge supply of ammunition; very heavy armor; regenerative health; Can shoot through light cover such as wood panels.
  • Weaknesses: Not able to equip a gas mask; not able to shoot from prone; slow movement; relatively weak at long range; There are no means to damage armored vehicles.

Sentry Elite Playstyle and Class Counters

  • Official description: The Sentry moves like a human tank. With a water-cooled automatic machine gun on its hip and silver armor, the Sentry can spray enemy positions with lead while also being able to withstand a large amount of damage. His main weakness is his greatest strength: to maintain his defense, he eschews the use of a gas mask in favor of additional armor.
  • Playstyle: While it may seem like a ranged option, the Sentry is better up close, thanks to the hip-fire aspect of its heavy machine gun. Weave in and out of buildings as you would with the Flame Trooper, but don’t devour him alone, as tempting as it may be, as heavy armor doesn’t translate into invincibility. At long range, you’ll use about half a magazine, but you’ll be constantly shooting at a target. willpower will result in a kill thanks to the narrow range of your weapon; it will just take longer than up close. Always flee from vehicles as soon as you see them.
  • Counterattacks: Explosives work well against Sentry, as do several snipers that can trap him in the open field. The gas is fine, but its high health means the Sentry will probably pass through it before much damage can really be done. Use vehicles to target him when possible, or multiple grenades and explosives of any type from your squad.

Tank Hunter Elite Class Equipment, Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Main weapon: Tankgewehr M1918
  • Weapon function: anti-vehicle weapon
  • Strengths: Capable of destroying vehicles; more mobile than the other Elite classes; can remove specific vehicle parts such as weapons and tracks; can quickly neutralize Behemoths with targeted fire; The weapon is still strong against infantry when properly aimed.
  • Weaknesses: Can only shoot from prone; lower armor and ammunition compared to other Elites; weak at close range and generally vulnerable to standard anti-infantry tactics.

Tank Hunter Elite class playstyle and counters

  • Official Description: The Tank Hunter has mastered the use of the 1918 Tankgewehr, a true beast of a weapon. Standing almost as tall as a man, the Tankgewehr is capable of damaging enemy vehicles at great distances. With a well-placed shot, the Tank Hunter can focus fire on specific parts of enemy vehicles, eliminating tracks, machine guns or cannons from armored vehicles.
  • Playstyle: You’ll want to use Tank Hunter as an anti-vehicle sniper. Find a safe location at very long range and focus on eliminating key targets that are causing the most problems, such as giants, bombers or tanks at checkpoints or choke points on the map.
  • Counterattacks: You can counter the tank hunter the same way you would counter a sniper. Once they see you, counterattack if you’re confident in your abilities or sneak up behind them to stab them in the back, shoot them in the head, or quickly throw a grenade at them. It’s also not as resistant to vehicles as it is strong at taking them down, so a couple of well-placed tank shots will dispatch it.
