How to beat the lake monster boss in Resident Evil 4

The basics of the Del Lago boss fight are pretty simple: hit the lake monster with the ship’s harpoon when you can see its body above the water, and don’t hit the floating obstacles, or your ship’s health will decrease.

If your ship loses all its health, Leon will die and you will have to start the fight all over again.

You must aim your harpoon before you throw it (aim with L1/LB or consoles, and throw with R2/RT), but since Del Lago likes to move very fast, we suggest you aim further to the left or right than you normally would. you believe Depending on the direction the lake monster is moving, you should help it land a blow.

Unless there is an obstacle directly next to you, we also suggest that you always move the boat to the left or right. This helps you automatically dodge Del Lago’s surprise attack, which triggers a QTE (quick time event) if you don’t avoid it, and your ship loses more health the longer it takes you to finish the QTE.

Unfortunately, you cannot destroy obstacles with your spear.

Always moving the ship to the left or right will help you avoid this surprise attack.

During the sequence where the lake monster is heading straight for you, you must punch it in its open mouth to make sure it doesn’t grab your boat. Its mouth will open near the ship, so be sure to aim the harpoon to prepare.

This is the perfect time to launch a harpoon.

Note that you can also hit Del Lago when he jumps in and out of the water in his dive loop, which can speed up the boss fight.

Our last tip is to aim a little higher than you think you should when the lake monster is far away. The Harpoon has a steep drop at longer distances, so this can help you land a hit from afar, such as when the monster is heading straight for you.

This shot won’t land because we didn’t aim high enough.

It took us 23 harpoon hits on Standard difficulty to finally defeat the lake monster in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Once you kill Del Lago, Chapter 3 will end, and if it’s your first time killing him, you’ll get the ‘Harpoon Hurler’ Trophy/Achievement.

Our Resident Evil 4 walkthrough can help you through the village with guides on the Big and Little Cave Shrine puzzle solutions, the Church dial puzzle, and the Del Lago, El Gigante, and Mendez bosses. When you reach the castle, you’ll need to tackle the correct timing puzzles of the Treasure Sword, the Four Slotted Wall, the Dining Room Bell, and the Grandfather Clock, along with the Garrador Dungeon, Two Giants, and Ramon Salazar’s bosses. The island is next, and there are still puzzles with calibration puzzles, keycard locations, and a hidden wrench, along with final bosses Krauser and Sadler.

Resident Evil 4 Lake Monster Boss Strategy in Hardcore and Professional

On Standard difficulty, the Del Lago boss fight shouldn’t take long unless your harpoon aim is a little off. However, in Hardcore and Professional, this is a long boss fight that requires you to be very careful to avoid obstacles.

If you’re playing on Professional, be sure to manually save right before you get on the ship, as there is no auto-save.

All of our tips above still apply to fighting Del Lago on harder difficulties, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that you should focus more on the obstacles in the water than you do on Del Lago.

If an obstacle is that close, there’s very little chance you’ll be able to avoid it in time.

We still suggest always turning the boat left or right to avoid the monster’s surprise attack, but make sure not to do this if you are near an obstacle in the water. Quickly steer the boat to the other side if you notice that you are getting too close.

You can only take two hits from obstacles during the entire fight in Professional, as long as you don’t get hit by Del Lago. Upon reaching the third obstacle, your ship will lose all its health and the monster will kill you.

In Hardcore and Professional, we also recommend trying to land as many harpoon hits as possible when the lake monster is circling the lake in the distance, and when it is doing its jumping sequence.

It’s hard to time it right, but hitting the monster as it’s lunging will speed up the fight.

Anything you can do to shorten the fight is highly recommended, as the longer it goes on, the more likely you are to crash into an obstacle.

Good luck facing Del Lago!
