How does the A Brother’s Keeper mission work in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

Sigurd will remain in Norway or return to England in Chapter 2 of In the Hall of the Dead, A Brother’s Keeper quest, depending on your previous story choices and the decisions made during this quest.

Once the quest in Wincestre is completed, Sigurd tells Eivor that he wants to travel back to Norway to face his father, Styrbjorn (Where Legends Are Born). Eivor agrees and they set sail for Hordafylke.

Once there, Sigurd confronts his father and reprimands him for kowtowing to King Harald. Having made peace, Sigurd leads Eivor out of Hordafylke and into the desert where, he claims, the gate to Valhalla remains hidden (A Brother’s Keeper).

Inside a large cave in the middle of the frozen desert, Sigurd and Eivor find a door. Sigurd is able to open it and inside they find a large Animus-like machine. Sigurd interacts with a balloon and Sigurd and Eivor are immediately transported to a simulation.

The simulation leads Sigurd and Eivor to believe that they have finally reached Valhalla, but the inconsistencies prove that what they are seeing is a lie. Eivor manages to convince Sigurd to abandon the simulation and return to Ravensthorpe. Sigurd reluctantly agrees.

Once outside the machine, Eivor and Sigurd confront Basim, who has followed them to Norway. A fight ensues between Eivor and Basim as Sigurd attempts to lure Basim to the central platform. Together, Sigurd and Eivor trap Basim in the simulation, where they let him live out his days in darkness.

A Brother’s Keeper’s Decisions in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Explained

Sigurd and Eivor have one last conversation before returning to Ravensthorpe. It is in this conversation where several key story choices with Sigurd come into play throughout the game.

If you sided with Sigurd enough, Sigurd will name three occasions that demonstrated Eivor’s loyalty. If so, Sigurd will step down as jarl and appoint Eivor as the new jarl of Ravensthorpe. Once they return to Raventhorpe, Sigurd will make the announcement and the people of Ravensthorpe will celebrate the decision.

There is an option available in this quest if you have faced Sigurd multiple times in various story options so far, which may influence Sigurd in this final moment.

Eivor will have three options:

  • Brother, come home to me.
  • I understand your anger.
  • Your place is here.

Remember, if you manage to have more than three story options against Sigurd, the previous options will not appear and Sigurd will automatically return to England.

The new DLC is here and we explain how to start The Siege of Paris, as well as new romance options and Treasure Hoard locations. If you’re looking for endgame activities in the full game, we can explain how to get the Nodens Bow, Excalibur, Thor’s Gear, and other Valhalla armor sets, power level and how to get XP quickly, Order of the Ancients locations, and all the Assassins. Creed Valhalla story options. If you’re looking for things to collect and upgrade, we’ve got lists of the best Book of Knowledge skills and locations.

How does telling Sigurd to return home affect Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is your place here or do I understand your anger?

Selecting “Brother, come home with me” will convince Sigurd to return to England and Sigurd will still appoint Eivor as jarl.

By selecting “I understand your anger”, Sigurd stays in Norway and Eivor becomes the jarl of Ravensthorpe.

Selecting “Your place is here” produces the same result: Sigurd remains and Eivor becomes the Earl of Ravensthorpe (A Peaceful Homecoming).

If you have four or five negative options against Sigurd, if Eivor asks you if Sigurd will return to England, you will still say no.

If you have made three negative decisions, selecting “Brother, come home to me” will negate one of them and Sigurd will return to England.

When it comes to other story options in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, we also have pages on Soma’s traitor, killing or sparing Leofrith, killing or sparing Reud, taking or leaving resources in England, whether to hit Basim, tell Ubba the truth about The Death of Ivarr, the vote for the next Ealdorman of Lincolnscire, who will be the next Jarl of Snotinghamscire and whether Faravid is a traitor.
