The Apex Legends map, called Kings Canyon in-game, is unusual in that it combines several different areas that almost look like miniature multiplayer maps in one large space.
However, the size of the map itself is smaller – the exact size is not confirmed, but certainly feel Smaller than other Battle Royale equivalents, due to the large amount of maneuverability you have at your disposal. Apex Legends map changes in new Kings Canyon update
Before we dive into the details, here’s a look at the latest version of the King’s Canyon map, as it was introduced at the beginning of Season 2.

Apex Legends Map Update and Map Changes:
- Dinosaurs! – Well, technically they’re not dinosaurs. Giant creatures, called Leviantanes, have entered the map. You can see their outline on the map: they will wander slightly within their set location and if you stand under their huge feet while they move, you will be crushed and killed.
- Flying Creatures: The flying creatures you can see perched at various points around the map or in the air above it are not just for show, they carry loot. If you shoot the loot boxes, they will drop down and you can search for them; There may be some high quality stuff in there, color coded like a death box, so keep an eye out!
- Location Changes: Bridges has been reworked, with a new location nearby called The Cage. Likewise, Cascades has been replaced by Containment.
- Balance Adjustments: Mainly in the form of adjustments to the circle and its damage and timing. A little more detail on that in the next section.
- Early Game Supply Pods: Supply Drops will now appear as sort of mini hot zones at the beginning of the game, and often include some great gear if you can win the fight for it!

Apex Legends Kings Canyon Old Map Comparison and Key Things to Know
The old Kings Canyon map isn’t much different from the current one, as you can probably see from the short list of updates above. For comparison, here’s a look at the two side by side.

There are still seventeen ‘named locations’ (two replaced by another two in the update) as you can see in the image above and interestingly they all look very unique – it’s as if each location is designed individually, like a multiplayer mode. the old school map, and they have teamed up to make this one bigger for Battle Royale.
We mean that in a good way, because that means that each region seems to be quite intricate in design, and moving from one area to the next almost feels like a specific tactical encounter, like you’re breaching an area blocked by another team.

If you’re new to Apex Legends, but perhaps familiar with Battle Royale games, there are probably quite a few elements on the map that are throwing you off. Here’s a quick rundown of what all these weird and wonderful additions do.
Apex Legends Hot Zones Explained
Hot Zones, marked with medium-sized blue circles on the map, are areas where you will find an increase in both the quality and quantity of loot, but also the possibility of weapons with all possible attachments already equipped, which No seem that happens anywhere else.
You’ll also get extra XP for getting kills in the Hot Zone, so it’s a great place to practice or head to if you’re ready to fight; not so good if you want a tactical advance to the end.
Apex Legends Supply Ships Explained
Supply ships are large planes that gradually fly over the map (similar to the one you jump on at the beginning) and contain a decent amount of high-quality loot.
There’s always one at the beginning: you can watch it fly and see its final location marked in turquoise green on your main map, which you can land on directly from the dropship.
They also periodically enter during the game and shoot several zip lines into the area around them, which is the only way to access them from the ground – another option for a feisty start!
Apex Legends Respawn Points Explained
Respawn points are marked in green: they are diamond-shaped green icons on the minimap or smaller green dots on the main map. They’re permanently marked there, which is helpful, so you’ll probably develop a pretty innate knowledge of where everyone is over time.
They have a fairly unique purpose in Apex Legends: if your ally is properly eliminated (i.e. not just knocked down but killed while down), then you can pick up their beacon by heading to their Death Box (the box that appears). when someone dies) and interact with them.
Take him to a respawn point and interact with him, and he’ll drop into your companion, which is nice! However, they will have no weapons, equipment or ammunition; all of that is still in his death box. Note that respawn points are often surrounded by a trio of supply containers as well, helping to resupply quickly after you’ve respawned.

Apex Legends Supply Drops Explained
There are two types of supply drops in Apex Legends, which are very similar: those obtained from the latest Lifeline and those that appear naturally over time (very similar to supply boxes in PUBG, for example).
The only difference really is that Lifeline seems to have a slightly lower chance of containing the top-tier, shiny gold loot. The ones that occur periodically in the game (in a random location) usually have one of the best Apex Legends weapons inside them, as well as some top-tier gear. There are always exactly three elements in each one.

Will Apex Legends have new maps in the future?
Apex Legends’ first map, Kings Canyon, is pretty good, but it also seems quite small, as games only last 15-20 minutes on average and most of the map can be covered in a fairly short period of time, thanks to all the various mobility options at your disposal.
Luckily, if you’re somehow already getting bored, there is actually confirmation from developer Respawn that there will be more maps in the future.
Speaking to Venturebeat, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said:
“There will be new maps, new modes, new characters, new weapons, new skins. There will be a lot of things over the next year, maybe 10. It depends on how successful it is.”
That’s a pretty solid confirmation, then! Maybe ten years is a little optimistic, but Apex Legends has been incredibly popular so far.
