Animal Crossing New Year’s Countdown: Start time and items in New Horizons explained

The New Year’s Countdown is how the citizens of your island celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

During this event, you will be able to collect various New Year’s items that will help you celebrate midnight in style.

However, it’s a good idea to know the start time of the New Year’s countdown first, so you don’t miss out on all the fun.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – New Year’s Countdown

New Year’s countdown start time in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

The New Year countdown in New Horizons obviously takes place on December 31 every year.

Starting at 5 am, the island’s daily reset time, on December 31, you can find Tom Nook and Isabelle standing outside Residential Services next to a stopwatch counting down the last hours of the year.

While Tom and Isabelle will be in the square all day, the New Year’s countdown doesn’t start until 11 pm. At this point, several of your villagers will travel to the square, and when midnight hits, fireworks will fly.

Since the couple is outside and the timer is blocking the door, residential services will be closed throughout the day. This means you can’t complete any Residential Services-related tasks, like moving buildings or setting ordinances, but it’s not like any of them have many days off…

New Year’s countdown elements in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

There are a number of items you can get to help you celebrate the New Year countdown in New Horizons.

The first is the lightstick, which Isabelle will give you at any time of the day. You can hold this item and shake it when the new year begins.

Tom Nook has returned to his merchant roots for the new year selling New Year hats and party poppers. He’ll also give you a free set of party poppers the first time you talk to him during the event.

A five-pack of party poppers will set you back 300, while a New Year’s hat costs 500 bells. As for the hat, there are four colors to choose from: red, orange, blue and purple.

It will stop offering these goods when midnight arrives.

Finally, you can also order a variety of New Year’s related items in the seasonal section of the Nook Shopping app; Some of these items will be available until December 31st, while others will remain until January 5th.

Remember: You can only purchase five items a day from the Nook Shopping app, so choose carefully.
