Alolan Sandshrew 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Alolan Sandshrew in Pokémon Go

This week’s Spotlight is the latest Frozen Pokémon in our winter event series and is all about the regional form of the Mouse Pokémon, making it the perfect time to catch a perfect Alolan Sandshrew in Pokémon Go.

Unfortunately, Sandshrew (in both its Kantonian and Alolan forms in Pokémon Go) and its evolved forms (Sandslash) are pretty trash in raiding and competitive play, which means the real draw of this week’s Spotlight Hour is the special bonus that accompanies the event: the double evolution XP bonus.

Alolan Sandshrew IV Stats 100% Perfect in Pokémon Go

This week’s Featured Hour is a great opportunity to catch an Alolan Sandshrew with perfect IV stats.

Alolan Sandshrew.

“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max build, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your 4* Pokédex, Raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.

Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Alolan Sandshrew based on CP alone.

If you’re at level 30 (or higher), you’d ideally want to look for the following CPs for a perfect Alolan Sandshrew 15/15/15:

  • Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 1108 CP
  • Level 35 (maximum weather-boosted wild CP: 1201 CP)
  • The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.

Is Alolan Sandslash good at PvP?

Alolan Sandslash is perfectly fine, but it’s not great at all and you shouldn’t go out of your way to find a perfect one for Go Battle League. Ice-type Pokémon shine brightest in Master Leage, but this isn’t really a Master level monster.

In Great League and Ultra League, you’re looking at Shadow Claw, Ice Punch, and Bulldoze, while Master League leans toward triple-Ice with Powder Snow, Ice Punch, and Blizzard.

    Alolan Sandslash.

Alolan Sandslash is a bulky Pokémon with a perfectly reasonable moveset: Shadow Claw in the lower leagues to deal with the likes of Cresslia and Giratina, and Powder Snow in the big leagues when Dragon-types come out to play. In Great League you can expect to beat Altartia, Noctowl, Skarmory, Lanturn, and Trevenant, while losing to the likes of Medicham, Galarian Stunfiskk, Registeel, Sableye, and Swampert, which isn’t really an ideal set of losses.

In the Ultra League the matchups are equally grim. You can expect wins against the same Pokémon, along with Nidoqueen and Muk, although you should expect to lose to Swampert, Galarian Stunfisk, Talonflame, Walrein, and Tapu Fini, all of which are meta Pokémon.

The problem is simply his CP range: a perfect 15/15/15 Alolan Sandslash caps out at 2750 CP, meaning he’s woefully underpowered in the Master League. While you can rely on Ice-type to defeat Garchomp, Giratina, Lugia, Gyarados, and, believe it or not, Mewtwo, you really want a perfect Shadow Alolan Sandslash to deal that extra damage. If you really need an Ice-type Pokémon League Master, there are much better options.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Is there a shiny Alolan Sandshrew in Pokémon Go?

Yeah! Released in June 2019, there is a shiny Alolan Sandshrew in Pokémon Go. It’s also had a Community Day since then, so a shiny Sandshrew is far from a rarity.

Spotlight Hours, unlike Community Days, do not have an enhanced brightness rate, so when you search for a shiny Alolan Sandshrew, you will do so with the usual brightness rates in this work. This means that if you really want a shiny Alolan Sandshrew, you should make the most of this hour!

What does the shiny Sandshrew look like?

As you can see, the bright Alolan Sandshrew takes on a cold blue color, really leaning into that icy theme.

However, this is let down by the terrible evolution of the saturation slider, where the brilliant Alolan Sandslash is just Alolan Sandslash, but more.

Other tips for this hour of attention

Besides trying to catch a shiny, perfect Alolan Sandshrew in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of other good reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight. The vast majority of players who show up for this Featured Hour will undoubtedly do so to enjoy the special one-hour bonus below:

    • The best reason is, of course, the double evolution XP bonus that runs throughout the hour. This gives you the opportunity to accumulate a lot of XP very quickly, so you can increase your trainer level. The best way to do this is to have two tags in your Pokémon storage dedicated to this time. The first is the things you want to evolve and keep (usually strong Pokémon and Pokémon you need to evolve to update your Pokédex) and the things you want to evolve and transfer. This second box should contain all of the 12 candy Pokémon. The search string to quickly find all of these rated less than 3* is: 0*,1*,2*&10,13,16,265,293,519&!shiny
    • If you’re a newcomer, this Featured Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Sandshrew candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and record its evolution, Sandslash, in your Pokédex.
    • Thanks to Alolan Sandshrew being an Ice and Steel-type Pokémon, catching a bunch during this Featured Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.

Remember: Spotlight Hour events only last one hour: from 6 pm to 7 pm (local time). Next week’s Spotlight Hour is all about Wooper and the accompanying double-capture Stardust bonus.

Good luck finding a perfect shiny Alolan Sandshrew!
