World Hepatitis Day 2023: Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that causes several health problems and can also be fatal. According to the WHO, around 325 million people live with viral hepatitis B and C. Globally, 42% of children have access to the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine.
World Hepatitis Day is celebrated annually on July 28 around the world. This year, the theme to be observed at DMH 2023 is “One Life, One Liver.”
Five strains of hepatitis virus are A, B, C, D, and E. All cause liver disease, but they differ in important ways, such as modes of transmission, severity of disease, geographic distribution, and prevention methods. Basically, types B and C cause chronic diseases and together are the most common cause of liver cirrhosis, cancer, and deaths related to viral hepatitis.
