Do you want to read more about Wordle before the next answer?

A lot has happened with Wordle since its rapid arrival in October 2021, with millions of players signing up every day in just a few months.

App stores were quickly flooded with clones to take advantage of its popularity. Elsewhere, a developer who made a game with a similar name available previously donated its windfall to charity after players mistook it for the game. new five-letter guessing game, with (modern) Wordle creator Dan Wardle calling it a “class act” in response.

The most notable event in Wordle’s history is its purchase by the New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, placing the game in the newspaper’s online games group.

Today, Wordle is still free to play and the game itself hasn’t changed, although there have been some minor developments behind the scenes.

In the initial migration, streaks were reset for some players and rude words were removed from the dictionary, which led to the word list changing, resulting in some players being assigned a different word. The New York Times has since also shut down an “unauthorized” archiving site of old Wordle puzzles.
