When filming “The Believer 2”, the producers tried their best to bring back the original cast, but Ryu Junyeol and Chen Seoyan failed to join. James Marsh of the South China Morning Post gave the film a rating of 1/5 and criticized “excessive violence in Korean action films”. He specifically mentioned the character of Han Hyo-joo, describing the new villain Seo So-jin as “The Big Sword” as a “expressionless, chain-smoking angel of death” with various physical characteristics. Marsh concluded that, despite some viewers’ efforts, the film delivered an exhausting two hours of tense action and misdirection that ultimately added nothing significant to its superior predecessor.
On the other hand, Lori Meek of Ready Steady Cut gave the film a 3/5. She mentioned that, similar to the first film, The Believer 2 offers plenty of gratuitous violence while introducing extra layers and twists to its storyline.
