Why isn’t “Unearthly Child” on iPlayer?

Where can I watch an extraordinary child?
You can watch the first Doctor Who story, “An Unearthly Child,” in a few different places. It’s not available on BBC iPlayer. You can find it on BritBox or as a service plug-in on ITVX. Additionally, you can buy individual episodes of The Mysterious Child, The Cave of the Skull, The Forest of Fear and The Firemaker for £1.89 each on the Apple Store.

“An Unearthly Child”, also known as “100,000 BC”, is the first story in the British science fiction TV series “Doctor Who”. The show first aired in four parts from November 23 to December 14, 1963. The story, written by Australian author Anthony Coburn, introduces William Hartnell as the first doctor, and his original companion: Carole Ann Ford Ann Ford as Susan Foreman, and Jacqueline Hill and William Russell as school teachers Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton.
The first episode tells the story of how Ian and Barbara stumble upon the Doctor and his time-traveling ship, the Tardis, in a London junkyard. The rest of the story takes place among warring Stone Age groups who have forgotten how to make fire. Doctor Who was produced by Canadian producer Sidney Newman, with input from Donald Wilson and C.E. Webb, with the aim of bridging the gap between children’s and young adult television.

Otherworldly children’s plot
In the plot of “A Mysterious Child,” teachers Ian and Barbara worry about their student Susan, who looks different. When they visit her home, they find a strange police box and hear Susan’s voice inside. An old man, Susan’s grandfather, stopped them from entering the police station.
However, they forced their way in and found a huge control room inside the small box. Susan reveals that the object is a time machine called the TARDIS and that they are exiles from their own planet. The Doctor (as they call him) takes off in the TARDIS and travels back in time to the Stone Age.
There they met a primitive tribe led by Zha who were trying to make a fire. If he fails, another man named Carl will become the leader. The Doctor is arrested while trying to help light a fire, and Ian, Barbara and Susan are also imprisoned. They managed to escape with the help of their old mother, but were recaptured.
The tribe threatened to sacrifice them if they could not make a fire. Ian eventually succeeds and Za becomes the leader. Susan discovers a trick to make skulls appear alive in fire, and they use this trick to escape to the TARDIS. They travel through time and space to a mysterious forest, unaware that the radiometer in the TARDIS shows a “dangerous” reading.

Reviews of “A Child Who Can’t Eat Earthly Fireworks” are mostly positive. Although it received mixed reviews when it first aired, many people now view it favorably. The first Doctor Who story introduces the iconic TARDIS and Doctor Who’s time travel adventures.
While it faced some challenges during production and was overshadowed by historical events such as the assassination of JFK, it has become a cherished part of the show’s history.
